Where do you get the (YEAR) for a TV Show?

Server Version#: 1.25.3.5409
Player Version#: 1.39.1.2763-300bb607

Seems obvious but …

The Guide says

" * For the “Plex TV Series” agent, it is recommended to always include the year alongside the series title in folder and file names, e.g. /Band of Brothers (2001)/Season 01/Band of Brothers (2001) - s01e01 - Currahee.mkv "

If the year is not present in TheTVDB title, where should I get the YEAR from?
I might guess that one should use the “First Aired” item, among the series details, but the FAQ does not explicitly identify where to find the year to use, if it’s not present in TheTVDB title.

I’ve seen in other articles, that sometimes the year is debatable. What does the Agent match against?

This – it’s the year a show first aired.
This is usually listed on TheTVDb and The Movie Database.

Thank you!

And adding to @tom80H here

I always go with imdb
Year is located right below the title

Thanks!
On the off chance that TheTVDB and IMDB disagreed on the year, which one should I use? I just want to make sure I’m referencing the definitive source that the scanning agent is comparing to my TV Show folder name.

Heh, and good Q

But let me add to your Q here, since the default for the new TV Agents on PMS is not thetvdb, but tmdb

When said, for movies I go by IMDB, and for shows, by tmdb
( Sorry, missed before, that this was show only )

And all my shows are following the new naming std. with hints towards tmdb id, like:

Vikings (2013) {tmdb-44217}

Oh wow! I didn’t realize PMS was moving to tmdb (TheMovieDB.org) for it’s TV Show identification. Thank you for bringing that to my attention!! I was still going by listings on TheTVDB.com! I’ll start naming the files like you do
Is that just for the main folder or for all the episodes as well??

For shows, just the main folder

For movies, both the main folder, as well as the actual media

Like:

2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) {imdb-tt0322259} (Folder)
2 Fast 2 Furious.2003.1080p {imdb-tt0322259}.mkv (Actual media below the folder)

Thank you for the explanation. I have a lot of renaming to do

Just a follow-up, related question. Sometimes on TheMovieDB.org, I encounter a film that has a different YEAR, next to the title, than the year of the release date, on the line immediately below the title. It’s rare but it happens. In those situations, which YEAR should I use in my folder and file names? e.g.

Which YEAR does the media scanner use, for matching my movie?

Based on my personal experience:
Go with the year the movie was released in your country. If that was in 1994, go with 1994.

Thanks! Here’s another example. I bump into these quite often.

Movie was released in 1953 but apparently aired in the US in 1955
