Sorry, PLEX, but I’m not comfortable with the DVR reliability for the upcoming TV season. Yes, I can switch back to 1.6.x and lose multi-tunes awareness. This is not a good thing, but at least the recordings will finish. But the bigger question is what is out there that is better? I’m using HDHR run now, but it had issue with audio stutter and reboot. But… I haven’t tested it since I upgraded the firmware. What about Emby or DVBLink? I have to have a NAS solution.

I’ve been looking at emby too.
Hi,
I checked emby, didn’t like it really. What NAS do you have? there is dvblink and tvheadend as DVR solutions for most NAS as far as I know (and at least tvh can run with hdhr devices). Before plex DVR I used vdr (www.tvdr.de) and then tvheadend to record + a script to transcode and copy to Plex.
So you could use something similar, just a different dvr backend/software that runs headlesss and is configurable via your browser.
Cheers
Alex

HDHRDVR is the best what client do you use ? … Have you posted over at the SD Forum with your device id client used and problem ? … if not you should. EMBY channel changing is so slowwwww…
@iPhonedation - I have a Symbology DS216+II. Kind of underpowered for transcoding, however the HDHR Extend will do it. Bigger question is what to watch the recording on. Tvh doesn’t seem to support streaming devices. Roku is preferred due to the annoying interlacing artifacts with the Amazon Fire devices.
Oh, there is a client called “tvhclient” for both, Android and Apple Devices. Also tvh provides an m3u playlist, so any device capable of that could be used. Also Kodi works perfectly with e.g. tvh as a PVR backend.
Are you more after recordings or live tvh? I used to shift my recordings into folders for plex way before they came up with the DVR functionality.

There is a discussion on this 'slowness ’ going on right now on the emby forum. You should chirp in

I had it too. I’d suggest taking a video of the behaviour on your phone along with screenshots of your settings on client and post for luke to see.
@nyplayer – I have to use Amazon Fire devices to view HDHR recordings - a Fire TV box and 2 sticks. I hate the interlacing artifacts, but I can’t justify buying yet another streaming box such as an nVidia or whatever Chinese Android thingy SD supports. And from what I’ve heard, Roku support is just a dream. If the firmware update stabilized the playback, I’m good. I use DirecTV Now as a steaming provider and they’re supposed to release their DVR this fall. So it all may be moot, except for recording PBS which is not included in their local channels.
But… I’ll still hope that Plex will come through with 1.9.x and FIX EVERYTHING. Ha.
I’m using DVBLink Server with HDHomeRun Extend, with a subscription EPG service (also from DVBLogic). Tried enabling Plex DVR lots of times, but always had problems of some sort (missing epg/channel data for Denmark, bad recordings etc.). Have been using DVBLink for at least 2 years, and never had a problem. I set a custom “Send to” (rule) on each scheduler in DVBLink, which converts the TS to mp4 and moves them to the root of my Plex recordings folder automatically.
@mm98 - This sounds good. Great, actually. Time to spend the rest of the day in front of the PC and research this.

One important note
Don’t scheduler recordings in both Plex DVR and DVBLink at the same time. One of the recordings will not work (often DVBLink) … I guess Plex isn’t reserving the HDHomeRun tuner the “correct” way (not sure). You can have multiple DVBLink recordings/schedulers at the same time(slot) and it will work. You’ll also have LiveTV, TV-Guide and make rec. schedulers on almost every device (ex. DVBLogic mobile app - without transcoding) ![]()
I’m not excluding Plex DVR yet, but it is too limited and buggy at the moment compared to DVBLink. I hope it will get better in the future.
@mm98 – I didn’t realize that DVBLink was a purchased product, albeit not expensive. I like the fact that you can tell it to convert the file type and store the files in the Plex folder. This way, I can ditch all my Amazon devices and use my Rokus. But… the files that the Plex DVR creates now are .ts and not mp4. Can’t I just leave them as .ts?

True, it is not a free service. I’ll gladly pay for a service or product, which i use a lot ![]()
DVBLink records in uncompressed TS, which can be hard for clients to play (high video bitrate and file size). The transcode option in DVBLink has a bitrate about 5800, which is perfectly fine for at TV recording. Therefor I have a “send to” (strange name) rule, that automatically kicks in, when a recording is finished. This is a “Send to” rule you create in DVBLink and select per scheduler. You can also just let it move the file, and not convert it.
You could even let DVBLink record directly into a specific (plex) folder. This would be a global configuration and not configurable per scheduler. That’s what “Send to” rules are for.
@mm98 – I’m going to wait until hurricane Irma passes Florida. I stand to lose my antenna, so why spend the money now? I’ll need it for repairs. I’m in Tampa.
I almost bought DVBLink last night but rational thinking took over (dammit) and I decided to wait.

Wise choice. I’m following Irma here from Denmark. Hope it will degrade, before it reaches too many populates areas ![]()
EDIT: Wouldn’t it be possible to install it a trial version? WIKI page shows how to activate from trial. Could be a option, and not purchase before you have tried it. Might not be something for you.
From what I remember trying it out on my QNAP, was you can trial it for some days.
