Which Plex Client For Females Advice Please? :-D

Hi,

I am shortly going to be moving in with my partner and her 2 Children and need to change to a more friendly interface that will prevent any remotes being thrown around the living room and looking for any recommendations (preferably from someone that is in the same position  ) Currently they are used to Virgin Media Tivo but as we are moving to an area without Cable Service and I am a Media Junkie I need to find an easy way for them to use my tech.

here are my requirements

1, Direct HEVC Stream Capabilities (Xbox One? PC Based NUC Etc? Roku4)

2, Being Able To Support 2 Servers (PlexKodiConnect Only Supports One?)

3, To Be Able To Work With Live TV DVBLink Or Similar To Display Full EPG And Be Able To Record Programmes (Kodi Seems Best For This But PlexKodiConnect Only Supports One Server?)

4, Work Well With A Remote Control (She Hates The Keyboard Type Remotes)

5, Find A New Partner?

Any Advice Would Be GrateFully Received

Many Thanks

The Roku is always a good choice for usability. And it has a great Plex app, so it has some of the bells and whistles you may want, but still has the easy user interface for your partner. Its biggest drawback is its limited codec support, but this will be true of any Plex player/set-top box with a real remote.

It also works well with Plex channels and provides a variety of native channels for access to the larger online content providers that only provide hardware specific channels (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc. and cable alternatives like SlingTV and PS Vue). So for your partner, it is a good one stop device for the TV.

I cannot speak specifically to your 3rd requirement, since I do not use Live TV recording. There are unsupported Plex channels that provide interface for these programs, but you would need to refer to their support threads for how they work and any Plex player app restrictions or limitations. See Channels from Other Sources and How do I get support for unsupported channels?.

I recently purchased the new Roku stick and it is a great cheap Plex player (though no h.265 support). And even if the Roku stick doesn’t completely meet all your “geek” needs, it is cheap, works with Plex, and is easy to use. So you could buy the Roku stick for your partner to more easily access content and then have your more “geeky” device on another HDMI port or another TV.

I second the above vote for a roku. Not only is it wife approved, it’s 5 year old daughter approved.

No EPG support or live TV support save for cable providers that have a channel for it (TWC, Charter, and soon to be Xfinity, and perhaps Sky in the UK…not sure)…but as noted above, just use Kodi on your other HDMI and be done with it.

Many Thanks for the advice guys! I forgot/should have mentioned I already have a Roku 3 but the lack of HEVC support and very flakey Live TV Support I took advantage of the Amazon 1 Hour Delivery & got myself an NVidia Shield which has ticked all the boxes and is up & running with everything I need on a very very nice touch sensitive bluetooth remote, HEVC streaming perfectly with no transcoding and superb interface to my Live TV Via Kodi…very happy and simple to use!

Many Thanks for the replies, hopefully this thread will help someone else out too!
