Why do trailers show up as Now Watching

I just noticed that a friend was watching a trailer and it showed up on the “Now Playing” list. I was able to snag a screenshot. Picture taken from PlexPy. Wasn’t fast enough to get one within Plex, but we get the point.

Are these trailers being downloaded to my server first then streamed to the user?

from what i know trailers are not downloaded to the server, and i think that is just like a status for whatever you play

I wasn’t playing the trailer. A remote friend was.

Now they are watching the movie.


This is what I’m use to. I’ve never seen a trailer popping up as playing.

ya, in status, will always show the trailers to, including yours, you can try yourself, to play a movie and will show the trailers in status, including the status in PMS, is like this for since i start using plex like 2 years ago

I’ve just never seen this before. It made me think I was the one downloading trailers and then streaming to people. It just looked odd that PMS and PlexPy sees an active connection to my server for content I’m not hosting.

Trailers used to pop up before. Right from the beginning when they were added as a feature.
Only later they were suppressed to show up.
Do they only show up in PlexPy or also in the web app?

The trailer showed in both PlexWeb app and PlexPy.

    That would explain it. I’m not at the current build.
