I am a Plex Pass user and run my Plex Media Server on a desktop computer running Windows 7. I have a rather large movie and TV library (about 2.5 GB) which Plex accesses from a WD My Cloud NAS drive. I have had this configuration for about a year and everything WORKS WELL on my devices at home and remotely. I recently noticed that Plex is using 75 GB of space on my desktop running the server. Isn’t that excessive since all the media files are on the NAS? Could I have configured something wrong? Thanks in advance thoughts or suggestions!
Usually when Plex uses a huge chunk of space it’s because Video Preview Thumbnails are enabled. I’m not familiar with NAS use, but I’m guessing the thumbnails are not stored on the drive where the media files are, but where the server is.
OK, so I understand that Video Preview Thumbnails are probably the culprit. It also seems like moving them to the NAS is generally NOT a good practice so, if I understand correctly, my choices are:
1- Let Plex use the 75 GB of space on my PC Hard Drive
2- Live without Video Preview Thumbnails
3- Get a NAS that can run PLEX directly
Does that seem about right?
Correct. I advise you to go with 1)
It gives you the best Plexperience
