Why play next episode does not play the same version?

When there exist different versions of a video you can choose which version you each to play. However, in the case of TV series, the autoplay next episode does not play the same version of the episode just played. I understand that this can be tricky since sometimes episodes may not have much in common in terms of codes etc making difficult to guess which one is the correct version to play. But when versions are carefully stored in separate folders I’d expect plex to be smart enough to play the next episode from the same folder.

How so? In what way do you have them organized where plex sees them as the same version(duplicate, if you will)?

As someone who just came back to this issue (I want to keep both the broadcast versions and the Blu-ray versions of Rick and Morty), I have tried the following:

Season 01/
  - Rick and Morty - S01E01.BR.mkv
  - Rick and Morty - S01E01.Broadcast.mkv
  - Rick and Morty - S01E02.BR.mkv
  - Rick and Morty - S01E02.Broadcast.mkv

and

Season 01 (Broadcast)/
  - Rick and Morty - S01E01.mkv
  - Rick and Morty - S01E02.mkv
Season 01 (BR)/
  - Rick and Morty - S01E01.mkv
  - Rick and Morty - S01E02.mkv

I’m assuming LironCareto is doing something similar to the second one.

Plex could automatically choose the last used version by choosing by same folder, or by resolution (in my case for example the BR is 1080p with TrueHD, and the Broadcast is 720p with AAC)

Or you could create separate Plex libraries.

You should probably consider voting for your own feature suggestion.
