Will the new Apple TV app see HDR10+ playback?

HDR10+ playback is currently not available on the Apple TV release app, as we know. As the beta app seems to really be coming together and is already triggering Dolby Vision playback (though we are still waiting on some confirmation that this is true DV or the “fake” kind that the release app uses), I am hoping that HDR10+ support is on the roadmap. I understand that this may not have been a priority for Plex originally, since only the latest version of Apple TV uses HDR10+ and the release app utilized Apple TV playback in some…interesting ways, so to a point I can see why HDR10+ was not added initially, especially since there are more TVs that do DV than HDR10+. I however am on a Samsung TV which does not have DV, so I’d really like to see the adoption of HDR10+. The Roku app can do it, and I know feature parity across platforms is the cited goal of these Experience apps, so it would seem to me that HDR10+ should perform the same across both platforms.

Can any devs comment on whether HDR10+ is on the Plex roadmap for the Apple TV app? I have been a big and vocal supporter of the newfound transparency regarding the Apple TV beta in the form of more release notes in the official thread, so any comment as to this would be great and really help keep that support from me going. Thanks!

It definitely is. Though like with most everything else we do not share ETAs for when this will be released. Sorry :person_bowing: :plexheart:

Thanks for responding and that is great to know! I totally get not wanting to provide an ETA. This community can be rough. I still think it might be worth providing some kind of future target feature list when the beta app goes live though, even without ETAs. I think it might help make things a little less negative among the userbase, but then again, the internet is gonna internet.

Thanks for all your hard work!
