Please provide a system setting to allow plexamp to be minimised to the notification area and not the taskbar in the windows desktop app.
It might seem like a small change, but it would be extremely helpful to keep plexamp ‘out of sight’ while allowing for remote adjustment with a casting device. Most other music streaming services provide this option.
Edit: Semantics, adjusted system tray to notification area
[Feature Request] Add Option to Minimize Plexamp for Windows to the System Tray
Feature Request
I would like to request a setting in Plexamp for Windows that allows the application to minimize to the system tray (notification area) instead of staying visible on the taskbar.
Details & Context
Currently, when Plexamp is minimized, it remains on the taskbar, which can be inconvenient—especially for those of us who keep it running in the background most of the day. Other music players and streaming apps typically offer an option to minimize to tray, and having this feature in Plexamp would make it feel more seamless and unobtrusive.
How I Manage Now / Workarounds
At the moment, the only workaround is to rely on third-party utilities that force applications to minimize to the tray. These solutions are clunky, inconsistent, and add unnecessary complexity. Having native support for this in Plexamp would make for a much smoother experience.
Why It Matters
Frees up valuable taskbar space, especially for users who don’t use taskbar grouping.
Makes Plexamp more consistent with other desktop music players.
Keeps the app “out of sight” while still allowing for quick access and background playback.
Suggested Implementation
A simple toggle in Plexamp’s Windows settings:
When enabled → minimizing sends the app to the tray (hidden from taskbar).
Clicking the tray icon restores the app window.
Optional right-click tray menu for quick actions (play/pause, skip, etc.) would be even more useful.
I hate this and I just have to say something about it. I had to look it up since I’ve never seen or heard anyone else refer to it as the notification area in all of my 20 years of working in IT and on Windows computers, and thought maybe you had it confused with the Action Center/Notification Center but you are right, it has always been called the Notification Area even though almost everyone, some Microsoft Employees, and even a rare setting for Narrator had referred to it as the System Tray. This in my mind just confirms that Microsoft has always had the worst designers in the industry working on Windows. System tray is such a better name and is even more so now that Windows actually contain the Notification Center which is somehow completely separate from the Notification area, even though it is literally the area for notifications in Windows. I really hate a lot of things in and about Windows but this is now the one thing I hate most, thanks for that.
