WinTV-dualHD USB Ubuntu 21.04 -- cannot add tuner

UPDATE:

Engineering is going to fast track getting the functionality straightened out.

They hope to have it in https://app.plex.tv early next week.

I will update further as I hear.

Any updates here?
I just stumbled upon this issue when setting up a new machine for Plex server, wasted over an hour looking for problems in my setup when the real problem was missing basic functionality in latest release…

No updates yet, sorry :man_shrugging:

I got Plex to actually start a scan today when I tried it again just now, previously I was also stuck at ā€œAwaiting channel scanā€ like the OP when trying to set up my WinTV soloHD. Did something change behind the scenes on app.plex.tv?

I’m not getting any channels picked up yet, but that could well be my antenna so will play with settings some more.

I am having the same issue with the same device and OS. I am really interested in a solution.

I don’t know anything about PCIe tuners but, given I do know certain things about Linux, the first things I would check:

  1. Does the software driver create a username / user group
  2. If it creates a group (a GID), did user ā€˜plex’ get added to the group so it can talk to the card ?

I ask this because of how hardware transcoding works.

User plex can’t own the GPU / ASIC / Nvidia Card but can be a member of the video group which the card is assigned.

By being a member of the group the driver assigns, PMS can reach in and talk to the card.

Perhaps the same thing applies here ?

What does the tuner card driver release notes say about changes ?
