I’ve been reading on this for the last couple days, trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong but I’m just at a loss. I know my hardware works as I just removed it from my XB1 and plugged it directly into the machine that has my PMS on it. I have the Win 10 drivers installed directly from Hauppauge, and Plex has no issue detecting it. Unfortunately though when I scan for channels, it’s not having any luck finding any. I’ve read that there might be issues with permissions, but I’m not seeing anything else running that could be trying to use it. Any suggestions?
It may won’t help you with your issue - but I’ve got the same problem with my WinTV-DualHD.
He finds the Stick but can’t find any channel too :-/
I have the same issue as well with the WinTV-HVR-955Q (XBOX One Tuner)! Been looking into this for days now. Cant find any errors in the PLEX Server logs. Ive tried it on my Windows 10 box using WinTV (Hauppauge’s software) and it works fine so I know its not the turner itself. Ive tried both antenna and cable options. Here’s the steps I’ve tried thus far (some steps may be completely ridiculous but I’m literally trying everything I find) with no luck:
Running: Ubuntu 17.04 (Kernal: Linux 4.10.0-21201705311620-generic x86_64) | Plex Server Version 1.7.2.3878
- Updated Ubuntu Desktop 16.04 to 17.04 (read about kernal updates and such)
- Tired multiple permissions:
sudo usermod -a -G video plex
sudo chmod 666 /dev/dvb/adapter0/* - Tried multiple software installs:
git clone --depth=1 git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
sudo apt-get install libdvbv5-0
From Hauppauge site:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:b-rad/kernel+mediatree+hauppauge
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-mediatree
sudo apt-get install linux-image-mediatree - Tried updating, upgrading, rebooting, etc…
Not sure what the problem is…
I’m having an issue where it isn’t seeing the tuner at all. What all did you do besides install the drivers and plugging it in to make it so Plex sees the tuner?
Yeah frustrating to say the least. The only errors I see in the logs as I dove into them are the following…
Jun 01, 2017 23:52:18.283 [20324] INFO - * CTVSChannelScanner::Tune. Wait for lock timeout Jun 01, 2017 23:52:18.283 [20324] WARN - [E] dvb_channel_scanner_t::do_scan. I see this repeated 68 freaking times.
and
Jun 01, 2017 23:52:09.885 [17396] DEBUG - * file_tuner::get_stream_file. File C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Resources\Tuner\Private\devices\dvb\file\drv_file.ini does not exist

I just installed the Windows 10 drivers from the Hauppuage page and plugged them in.
I also did some troubleshooting to see if maybe it was something stupid, but it did note that maybe using a USB 3.0 port wasn’t a good idea, but I’m getting the same results from USB 2.0 ports, so I don’t think it’s that either.
@bbubulka Did you try the Plex instructions on http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/linux.html ?
Posting a Plex Media Server.log and Plex Tuner Service.log for the Windows users who are having issues with channel scan would be helpful for us to try to help diagnose the issue.
Here’s logs from yesterday from the last time I tried this. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, I tried that already (see “From Hauppauge site” I posted earlier to see exactly what I ran). I completed the “Plex and Hauppauge TV tuners” section as the “Ubuntu support for Hauppauge TV tuners” was very outdated. Here are some logs I’m finding on my Linux server. Still no errors seen in logs but I do see these warnings popping up in the Plex Tuner Logs:

@MastermindJB …Are you seeing anything similar on your end? Not sure if logs will be exact same since your running Windows and I’m running Linux. I’ll start looking and attaching my entire logs soon for both log files @keithah mentioned earlier.
Here’s my logs from today as well:

Yes nearly identical to mine. I feel like there’s an issue with the PMS being able to talk to the tuner due to something blocking it, but I can’t seem to figure out what. I don’t have WinTV installed, never mind running. Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this.
@keithah , is there any other logs, information, or details you need from us? After researching these errors all weekend I’m starting to lean towards @MastermindJB conclusion. Please let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to try.
I’ve opened up an issue regarding this and will get back to you guys. It’s confusing, since others are having no problem with this tuner on both Windows and Linux, including our QA.
Just chiming in to say that i’m having the same problem. My pc recognizes the USB tuner, but it finds no channels. i tried downloading a couple other apps that also will allow you to view live tv on your pc and they would find the USB tuner, but not be able to scan for channels. I installed the drivers from Haupaugge’s website too and still no luck. I can provide logs if helpful.
If no apps worked, then it’s a setup issue and not a Plex issue. Resolve that and try Plex again.
@MastermindJB Heard back from the devs and it sounds like its a permission issue. Can you make sure no other app has the tuner, like WinTV? If that doesn’t solve it, try to run Plex Media Server as your user, or as an administrator and see if that helps.
@bbubulka Are you able to scan with anything else, Kaffeine, TV Headend, etc?
@keithah , I did try w-scan and it did pick up channels. I’ll try some of the other software later this evening.
I think I know whats happening! I think its a kernal version issue. I started on 16.04.02. After reading through Hauppauge’s documentation again, I noticed their statement “Please note: only Linux Kernel 4.4 is supported at this time. This is the default kernel in Ubuntu 16.04.1”! I’m created a brand new virtual machine and will test this out. If this happens to be the case, WOW! More info to come!

So initial testing still shows no channels. I’m testing running Ubuntu 16.04.1 (Kernal 4.4) and Plex Server Version 1.7.2.3878 and followed directions per Hauppauge’s website. Ill recheck the logs.

@keithah , Here’s my logs below. This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.01 and Plex Server Version 1.7.2.3878
