Wow! XBL DDoS = No Plex

Adam is not a dev.

I am hoping that 2015 is a year that devs will actively respond to threads in this forum.  The same old stuff keeps coming up and makes people frustrated.

Sure - but why does it it have to do this each and every time Plex is started?

It's pretty simple to store the locally found servers and present them even if XBL/Internet/whatever is having a problem.

You appear to be knowledgeable about what an Xbox App can and can't do.  Are you a dev or know where such limitations are documented?

Could be problematic if your server doesn´t have a fixed IP.

Fairly rare for a server to lose its DHCP lease and get a different address since, by definition, it's always on.

The whole ‘ Merry ****ing Christmas” was meant to be funny. However my issue with the Xbox one Plex app is isn’t. Whoever is suggesting that the reasoning for the constant checks is due to a hardware limitation couldn’t be anymore wrong. This is the ONLY app that requires this. Xbox has its own media app that i had to use during the holidays since plex was rendered inoperable. The xbox media players app saw my plex server and streamed movies via LAN just like its supposed to. As a matter of fact my plex app on my xbox 360 even worked via LAN while disconnected to XBL.

Its not a hardware issue. It is a developer limitation in that Microsoft limits what Apps can have access to on the system.  It is the same type of limitation that prevented the app from using the newly added decoders that were added to the DLNA software.  Until Microsoft releases that functionality to the app developers, they can't use it.

Pure speculation.  Please point to the specific developer limitation you refer to.

Apps can and do save data locally, so perhaps it's simply a design flaw in Plex?

Bugs are not being fixed.  Features are not being added.  Design flaws are not being rectified or even acknowledged.

Unfortunately the devs are very rare on the forums. and do not discuss any details of design, so it's very much speculation and ultimately frustration being vented by paying customers.

@Michael ~ I’m not sure how you would stream from a computer which isn’t networked. Unless you meant without Internet access, in which case that’s not possibly because the XB1 app doesn’t have the ability to do local network discovery.

Posted from Elan on the Blog. Here is the link since just quoting it isn't enough:

While yes they could add in manual server entry and other options to still access the server they haven't.  The reasons why they haven't are pure speculation.

Am I wrong but isn't the the reason it needs an internet connection to confirm you have a Plex Pass.

If it did this via your server I am sure it won't take long to hack it and everyone would have this amazing app and we wouldn't be able to complain about it because they would be 1000s of people complaining :) at once.

Im paying for a feature that I am getting in its beta state trying to find bugs and we are doing well  :D

Why doesn't Plex remember the IP addresses of servers it has previously found via Plex Pass so it doesn't have to do the whole XB Live login/plex pass check etc.   That way, if your Internet/XBLive/PlexPass is down then previously-accessed servers can be still be accessed.

We keep making suggestions like this but no devs are listening (or responding).

Something does need to change....  kind of ridiculous that if the internet on either side (client or xbox live) is down you can't access your local content.  Seems like a simple fix to authorize for one week at a time would work nicely.
