I currently have a dual boot setup on my HP chromebox with ChromeOS and Mark Walker’s Openelec+plex. I accomplished this by using MattDevo’s bios for dualboot setup with openelec. I then took Mark’s .tar file and dropped it in the update folder through windows explorer with a network connection and rebooted the chromebox. It then updated the openelec to openelec+plex and I have been enjoying the dualboot system ever since. But now I would like to update to openPHT, while still maintaining dualboot, and I was thinking I could just drop the embedded openPHT into the update folder and then follow the same process but that did not work out. I’m guessing it’s because the openPHT is an .img?? I don’t really know. Is there any way I can dual boot with openPHT? Is there a way to get the embedded openPHT file into a format that will work similarly to the previous openelec+plex, where I can just put it in the update folder and go from there? I’ve flashed openPHT to a SD card and thought about booting from it on the chromebox but I wasn’t sure if it was going to screw up the dualboot. I don’t know much about this stuff but I’m pretty good at following instructions. I am open to any suggestions. Thank you very much for your help.
Pretty sure you just boot from the flashed SD card with openPHT on it and go through the setup instructions. It will then install openPHT in another location (I’ve heard of people using USB drives) and after that you just boot from the new location to run openPHT.
Thanks for posting but the bios I’m using doesn’t allow me to do that. It only allows for the two locations to be booted and I am not sure how to add another one. That is above my pay grade. I want to replace the openelec location with openPHT and I’m not sure how to do that and still maintain dual boot.
I think what I really need is to take the embedded openPHT .img file and somehow package it into a .tar file that is exactly like the previous openelec+plex file. Would that even be possible? I am more than happy to do it myself if someone showed me how.
You can find the .tar-files here:
OpenPHT-Embedded-1.5.2.514-310d4f7e-Generic.x86_64.tar
OpenPHT-Embedded-1.5.2.514-310d4f7e-Nvidia_Legacy.x86_64.tar
Ok this is exactly what I was looking for!! Thanks! But it’s not working like I had hoped. I put this tar file in the update folder and reboot the chromebox and it’s still openelec+plex. So it’s not installing like I hoped it would. But I have one other thing to try to see if it will work. Can you tell me where these files are located?
It is possible the old openelec version requires KERNEL, SYSTEM and the md5-files to be placed in the update folder and not the tar-file.
The tar-files was generated together with the img.gz files but never uploaded to any public share.
Yes!! That’s exactly what it was! I put those files in the update folder and it worked! Thank you so much! How will I be able to get these files for future updates?
Would it be possible to get the newest .tar files (as above) for the embedded version? Thank you so much for your help!
