Do I need an Internet connection to access My Plex Server Local? Why not use Kodi instead.

Do I need an Internet connection to access My Plex Server Local? in the same server ?
Am I doing something wrong ? I hope so.
I like to see my movies locally stored in my server attached to my LCD. Now the system tell me that I should have a Internet Conection.
Why ? The content is locally. That was a feature that I used to like a lot. I have an exclusive PC so I can take it to my second home in the beach and see the movies that I like. I like Plex better than Kodi, but Kodi don’t required an internet connection to acces my content locally.

I don’t like apps and devices Internet dependable, if there is no a reasonable explanation.

Felling Frustrated and disappointed.

Sign the server out (in settings / Server / General) and you should be able to use local clients to access the server without authentication

There is a support page available regarding internet requirements - See Internet and Network Requirements

After the last Media server update it requires to have an active internet conection to access Plex Server in the same computer. Other version does not required that. I think is a step down if internet is required to access my media in the server thru the nice features of Plex. If that is going to be a requrement, i should look Kodi.

So it is necesary an active internet connection to access the Plex media server in the same server ?

Plex Media Server 1.1.0 is now available for Plex Pass members.
NEW:
Support videos in photo libraries. (#3928)
Support uploading videos to photo libraries. (Android support is available now and other mobile apps are coming soon.) (#3522)
(Web) Updated Plex Web to 2.7.8.
(Security) When server is signed in, clients must be signed in as well, even if they are on the LAN or on localhost. (#3819)
(Preferences) New pref to enable/disable deep media analysis.
(Windows) Updating the server from Plex Web no longer requires user intervention. (#4136)

Plex Media Server 1.1.3 is now available for everyone.
IMPORTANT: With the security changes in version 1.1.0, if your Plex Media Server is signed in to a plex.tv account, then all of the apps you use must also be signed-in. If you use older apps that cannot authenticate (e.g. LG’s MediaLink or SmartShare apps), you can add the IP address of the device to the following advanced preference: Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth. (We strongly encourage apps to be signed in for improved security and enhanced functionality.)

As @sa2000 said, you will need to log out of your Plex Media Server so its not logged into your Plex.tv account. As long as you are signed in to that, then all other devices must also be signed in.

If you dont have internet connection you cant sign to the Plex.tv,
I have the server IP in the Authorization list, and the local IP also.
I dont understand, PLEX NEW VERSION IS REQUIRING TO VALIDATE OR SIGN IN ?

Simple test

  1. Start Plex Media Server
  2. Disconect LAN cable for Media Server
  3. Try to open Plex Media Server
  4. You got the message - MAKE SURE YOUR SERVER HAS AN INTERNET CONECTION –

Your answer is yes you can use Kodi, why not both? I do a similar operation using UMS via DLNA as it is quick to set up but the trade off, a not so pretty UI.This is my ISP outage backup for plex I like Plex total package but like all software to achieve all features offered there are always draw backs. Your decision will depend on what your requirements are to suit your set up.
I’m happy with my decision and my family love Plex with all the support for numerous device clients. With the iPads I use VLC in a outage to connect to UMS.

Just to confirm did you go into advanced settings and add the devices IP?
Advanced preference: Settings > Server > Network > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

Also, to me it seems like at one point your server must of been logged into Plex.tv for it to say check your internet connection? when you your profile name on the top right corner, does it look similar to this? or does it say sign in?

EDIT: Also do you have a firewall installed?

First: cool down.

Second: I have a PMS installation on a virtual machine that has NO ACCESS to internet whatsoever, it is running PMS 1.1.4, I install PMS, configure my videos, everything perfectly works both from the web interface and from OpenPHT running on the same virtual machine. So you definitely have an issue with your PMS configuration.
