Issues with recording the 3rd and 4th shows on versions of the > 1.6.1...

After moving to the Live version of the DVR Beta, I began to have one main issue, when i go to the program guide and tell it to record 4 shows at the same time it will only record the first two. This frustrated me greatly. Moving back to 1.5.6.3790 solved my issues with recording a 3rd and 4th show. The challenge that I now face is that on each of the subsequent upgrades that I have tried, the latest being 1.7.6.4058 and 1.7.5.4035 the same issue of not being able to record 4 shows rears its ugly head. My present solution is to uninstall the latest version and return to 1.5.6.3790.
Can someone help me understand the cause and resolution?

I am experiencing the same issue.

PMS : 1.7.6.4058
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
2 HDHomeRun Connects

When both tuners of the first HDHomeRun are in use PMS will not look to the unused HDHomeRun for a tuner.

The log from the tuner performing the recording shows:
20170711-22:01:42 HTTP: rejecting request from 192.168.1.253 - all tuners in use
There is no log entry for the DVR with two available tuners.

I had the same issue and revert to 1.6.1. When I installed the 1.7.6 version the problem was no longer occurring for me. It is a very strange issue that apparently does not affect everyone.

You reverted from 1.7.6 back to 1.6.1, then upgraded to 1.7.6 and can now use all tuners on all DVRs for recording ?

Was on 1.7.5 before reverting. When 1.7.6 released I decided to see if the tuner issue would be resolved.

Thanks for the insight.
Earliest version I have is 1.7.3, I will re-install this version, then upgrade to 1.7.6 and see if that fixes the issue.

Fresh install of 1.7.3, still cannot record on more than 1 DVR at a time.
Does anyone know where I can download 1.6.1 for Ubuntu 64 bit ?

I didn’t think it would be this difficult to try to record more than 2 shows at 1 time.

I have posted instructions on other threads on the forum showing how to get to prior versions on Plex website.

Removed for codec licensing restrictions.

I upgraded from 1.5.6… to 1.6.1.3722… which worked. The upgrade from there to 1.7.6… did not work so I have downgraded to 1.6.1 which is running just fine.

Thanks for that posting showing how to download previous Plex versions johnm_ColaSC !

I performed a fresh install of 1.6.1.3722, which worked, I could perform 4 simultaneous recordings.
I then upgraded to 1.7.6.4058. I could only perform 2 recordings, always on a single DVR.
I tested several other 1.7.x versions, never being able to record on more than 1 DVR at a time.
So after several tests I had to always go back to 1.6.1.3722 to record more than 2 shows at a time.

1.8.1.4139 is not able to record more than 2 channels, back to 1.6.1 again

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I’m new to Plex and just built a new server as a dedicated Plex server. I have 3 HDHomeRun Extend Units and like you, I could not reliably get more than 2 shows to record at once.

Installing https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf/plexmediaserver_1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf_amd64.deb FIXED the issue!!!

I too tried the latest build from earlier this week with the same results. I wonder why Plex has not addressed this problem???

Anyway, thanks sooooo much for your research. I’m staying on this build of Plex till they get this fixed as about 85% of our TV viewing is DVR’s Local OTA Content, so I could not afford to have this not work. I was running Mythbuntu MythTV very reliably for the last 3 years, and I was expecting a really great experience with Plex, but boy, what a nightmare so far.

I have 2 old Buffalo Linkstation LS-CHL 1TB NAS Drives that have been used for my prior DVR setup, but with the goofy requirements of Plex Permissions, I am unable to grant enough permissions for Plex to write to those drives. It can read from them just fine, and there are no restrictions on the drive for any user. I can read and write to it just fine as admin or even guest, but Plex cannot. Very frustrating…!!! I’d love to know if anyone found a way around this problem.

I’ll definitely monitor this thread for future updates.

Thanks again!!

@Tenderfoot56 they have replicated the problem with multiple devices/tuners and are supposedly working on a fix. We just do not know when the fix will be released.

Thanks @johnm_ColaSC , Good to know. I noticed a new issue but not sure what’s going on. I have Anger Management set to record every night, 2 episodes. Plex shows they recorded successfully, the later shows they have been deleted??? I didn’t delete them and don’t have any listed to watch or in my PlexDVR directory where all other OTA recordings are being stored.

Also, this morning I looked in the calendar of future recordings, and several shows that should record every day like news shows, and a couple of the Sunday Morning News shows like Meet the press, etc. are not showing in the schedule, but are showing up as being set to record if you look at the TV show itself where it lists all upcoming episodes. Very odd…

My Confidence level with Plex is eroding a little bit more each day when I see this simple stuff not working. DVR service really doesn’t appear ready for “Prime Time” yet to me…

Tenderfoot56, I am not having that same issue. I have Plex set up to record a number of shows and it is completing the task.

@Tenderfoot56 I am not at a computer now so keeping this short. Does the Plex Media Server log filehave any entries regarding the show after the recording ends? Would need to probably see screenshots of settings for news shows and possibly logs to determine if there is any reason for them not recording.

1.8.2.4209 is not able to record more than 2 channels, I didn’t expect a resolution with this version, back to 1.6.1 again

Me, too. Back to 1.6.x before the fall season starts.

I’m going to have to agree with what others are experiencing. I gave the newer versions a run for the entire summer but now that the Fall TV season has arrived I think I’m going to go back to 1.6.X and stick with it until this problem can be fixed. It’s too much of a guessing game with the tuners at this point.

New version 1.8.4 released today, will try later
