So, with 1.8x of Plex, it is only successfully utilizing one physical HDConnect with two tuners, and NOT rolling additional recordings to the second physical HDConnect.
I just launched four simultaneous recordings, as you can see below…just to see if it could handle four separate programs at the same time.
But…only one HDConnect unit went “active”…the other one is just sitting there…
Attached are the logs, but it appears Plex 1.8x does not roll over to idle tuners like it should…
I guess we just have to sit back and wait for another version of Plex…and hope it includes something to address this based on what was posted here…
It would be better if once a problem with adequate supporting documentation is posted, some acknowledgement that a fix is in the works would be good to see. I realize that sometimes you can’t pin down an exact timeframe, but just having Plex development add to a post something like “we’ve duplicated this problem, and a fix is in the works” would be nice to see. Or, if you CAN’T duplicate the problem, direct the forum poster to provide additional data that will help you pin things down.
Otherwise, it’s just a post, and…crickets.
Let me know if you need anything to generate additional problem solving data…
I’m having the same problem. I did notice that when I only record ONE show, clicking on the Plex Server > icon in the menu bar indicates that I have TWO Transcoding sessions running. IF I record two shows, it indicates that I have four transcoding sessions running. Interestingly, if I look in the .grab directory, I only see files associated with One transcoding file per show I’m recording, as expected. Could these be related issues? Or are you supposed to get two transcoding sessions per recorded show? FYI, I’m running two HDHomeRun Extend devices with the latest firmware, and the latest PlexPass version of Plex Server on a dual core MacMini.
Just ran another test, since there was new tuner firmware. Still, the current version of Plex cannot roll over to use all four tuners I have established.
I just triggered another launch of four programs at the same time…two record. Two do not, they fail to roll over to the idle tuners.
Just to add to this…I looked at the logs of my tuners.
The firmware was updated at the same time, so at Fri Aug 11 18:50:38 2017 they were both “in sync”
Looking at the first log set, it appears Plex did “ask” for tuner data when I triggered the four simultaneous recordings, but was rejected by physical HDHomerun one, as both its internal tuners were busy.
My uneducated guess is when the tuner rejects the request by Plex, Plex does not roll over to subsequent tuners…instead, it just tried hitting the same tuner again several times

I updated my two tuners to the latest Silicondust firmware Version 20170815. Then I reran a test trying to record four programs at the same time. Unfortunately, the failure persists.

@DaveBinM Thank you for sending that forward! I like that Plex keeps getting better and better!
(the test after a mere firmware update was a stab-in-the-dark longshot…I didn’t expect a difference, but in an abundance of caution, I reran the test anyway)
I have Plex Media server Version 1.8.1.4139 with 2 hdhomerun extend and one hdhomerun dual.
I am not able to record more than 2 show at once.
However if I uninstall one of the hdhomerun extend, Plex will record 4 show at once and use the hdhomerun dual once the hdhomerun extend is full.
