I have PlexPass and am running the latest Plex DVR
I have 2 HDHomeRun Connect devices making a total of 4 tuners
Both HDHomeRun Connect devices are registered with Plex, however I’m only able to record 2 shows at once, instead of 4
Is this a known issue? Happy to upload logs if required
Yes it is unfortunately. I provided some logs and other config info to a Plex Ninja a couple weeks ago. He tracked down an issue and passed it onto Plex Engineering who have replicated the issue. Just waiting for next release that I hope will solve the issue. I had several recordings this week that were a lot of back to back stuff with some overlap. Not wanting to lose any recordings due to not being able to record more than two shows at once I uninstalled current version and reinstalled 1.6.1 which was the last version I know worked with multiple tuner devices. Something in the 1.7.x version introduced some issue, although 1.7.6 did work for me but 1.8.1 I had the problem again so I reverted to 1.6.1. Don’t have Live TV but wasn’t using it anyway so don’t miss it.

It is interesting that you had it working on 1.7.6 - I have 2 hdhomerun Primes and that version didn’t work for me but the 1.8.x versions have worked. The other thing I updated was the firmware on both of the hdhomerun Primes so perhaps that is a contributing factor as well?
I was on the most recent beta firmware at the time. The new firmware was released after I started experiencing the issue and I have since updated all of my HDHR devices to the 20170815 version. Was able to use all 4 tuners with 1.8.0 just not 1.8.1. I don’t care about Live TV so I dropped back to 1.6.1 that was very stable before Plex started doing the transcoding with multiple small ts files for recording each show to support Live TV and time shifting. Hoping the fix for the tuner issue will be released soon.

I am on PMS 1.8.0 and have not encountered any issues with multiple HDHR tuners (Extends) on the latest firmware. If they have acknowledged that they were able to replicate. I will wait to upgrade from 1.8.0.
Do you have a link to the thread where you reported this, or was it via private message?

Issue still persists on ver 1.8.2.4209
Thanks! I’m about to update to 1.8.2.4209 after my wife’s morning shows finish recording, but I’ll report whether I’m able to replicate and be prepared to roll back to 1.8.0.x.
Just updated. Will block off three simultaneous recordings when I have an open spot in my schedule in an hour and a half.
Edit: Got busy at work and forgot to do this until just now. First two recordings started without issue, and the third recording failed instantly. Guess I’ll be heading back to 1.8.0.4109 in the meantime.
I have 2 hdhomerunPrime units on Synology nas and recording 6 movies/shows at one time is fine with 1.6.1 1.8.x and the new chunk mode recordings sucks wind and does NOT finish recordings “build” for several hours after the actual recordings end had to revert to 1.6.1 which does standard recording without the chunked mode stuff for Live tv. Interestingly enough doing same thing on QNAP with 1.8.1 seems to work fine but different processors intel atom vs intel quad core. Others have seen same issues with windows and linux platforms.
One thing to double check is your network cabling and speed of network itself, bad cable or even slow network stream quality can cause issues, I run all cat7 (1000GB grade cabling) with GB switches (not hubs/actual switches- since switches provide descrete channel speed vs shared with hubs). Switches trick was something I learned years ago in work enviornments and has proved to still hold true today, hubs split & share bandwidth more. Some cheap hubs share signal processing between every 2 eth ports so really you only get 1/2 speed especially if you have 2 ports next to each other very active. Switches rarely do this and usually are beefier equipment for small price differences.
While this is solid advice in general, I run all 10GbE rated 600MHz Cat6. My attic mount antenna hits my two HDHR Extends after a 25’ coax run with good signal quality and strength for all channels tested. My server is a fairly capable, headless i7 with 16GB RAM and DVR is written to (staged on) a 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD on a 60’ direct drop of the same Cat6 from the WRT1900AC router. My tuners have their own 60’ Cat6 drop to the same room as the server and are behind a dedicated 10GbE rated dumb switch (not a hub). The fact of the matter is, this setup works flawlessly for recording up to four programs at once with two HDHR Extends on 1.8.0.4109, and it immediately failed today upon starting a third recording on 1.8.2.x. Switching back to 1.8.0.x allowed me to record the same three shows plus an additional one without issue, so there’s clearly an issue with the last two server updates (at least on AMD64). It may be dependent upon other circumstances, but I doubt it’s related to the network configuration, given the immediate correction upon reverting the PMS server.
Have you tried deleting both tuners and re-setting them up? I had to do that in order to get all four to record simultaneously when I added the second Extend on 1.7.6.x.
Bottom line is there are outstanding issues here that need to be resolved.
Ignore that previous post. First 4 worked, next set of recordings Plex was back to thinking one connect was recording when the other was actually being used.
Shouldn’t have to uninstall, I didn’t reboot before installing new version. Was optimistic when first 4 recordings worked but obviously that was a fluke as the next set failed.
