Multiple HD HomeRun Primes

So it appears that with version 1.8.0.4109 that you still can’t have multiple HD HomeRun Primes on the same DVR as it will fail to record the 4th recording. I’ve also noticed that the DVR is saying it is recording on one prime while the tuner status says it’s recording on the second one.

Is this being worked on? Is there a bug list with a priority ranking for what is being worked on?

I’m not really looking forward to managing multiple servers just to be able to make sure all of my shows record without conflicts.

I just did a clean install of Windows and Plex on my Alienware 15r2 that I am using as my media server. Bare bones install - W10 Pro, BitDefdener, Plex, MCEBuddy2x and Chrome

And I’m a bit frustrated by this issue with an otherwise solid product that should be out of beta, but because of this issue - it’s still should be in beta as not being able to record 4 or more shows at once is a huge issue. I know there other issues and I’ve hit some but this is by far the biggest one and I haven’t heard it discussed much.

Thanks!

Eric

Lots of other discussions from other users that have had tuner issues since the 1.7.x release including myself. Ironically once the 1.7.6 release came out I installed it just to see if it fixed the tuner issue and it had for my computer, 1.8.0 is still recording more than 4 shows if needed. Many of those that have had the issue have dropped back to 1.6.1 ton be able to use all of their tuners for recording. I personally am wondering how many of those with this issue are also using Live TV regularly. I have quit using it since the 1.7.6 release and haven’t, knock on wood, had any issue with using multiple tuners for recordings.

I have two HDHomeRun Primes on my DVR and haven’t had any issues. You might consider doing a repair via the control panel, assuming you’re on Windows.

@WCTschumy

What version are you running? This was a fresh install . . .it’s not even been running an entire day at this point.

@johnm_ColaSC

We’ve talked about this before and last I had heard you were still having the issue - so you have installed 1.8.0 and it’s doing more then 4? or you’ve read someone that has . . . hmmm

I’ll try the repair and then record some random programs again . . .

Thanks for the replies.

I went to 1.7.6 at one point and was able to record 6 shows at the same time. When 1.8.0 was released I loaded it and was able to record 6 shows still so I have stayed on 1.8.0. I have quit playing with Live TV though.

@johnm_ColaSC

Adding in @sa2000 as they were helping me on a different issue which in my testing of the newly installed windows seems to have solved that issue.

Ok . . so I was only able to do 3 recordings . . .

Here’s what I did
I uninstalled BitDefender - had issues with it crashing with Plex in the past but thought it was resolved
Deleted the DVR
Rebooted
Repaired Plex
Setup the DVR waited for the EPG to refresh
Recorded the first 6 programs from the program guide - the first 3 worked with no issue and the second didn’t until I cancelled the first 3 and then I cancelled the final 3

I have logs at each of the points - I’ve only attached the final set of logs but can provide the earlier ones if needed
Kicked off the first 6 - created logs
Cancelled the first 3 - created logs
Cancelled the final 3 - created logs

@EABenton I am having thing same issues and have been having them since 1.7.x. I am running Ubuntu so this is across multiple platforms. I was waiting but read @johnm_ColaSC posts and thought I would give it a try and now I have your wierd issue. @johnm_ColaSC did you do a fresh install? can you tell us what version of HDHR code you are running?

@lvmickey No I just installed 1.7.6 on top of the 1.6.1. I believe I did uninstall 1.7.5 before reverting to 1.6.1 when I was first having the issue of multiple HDHR devices not being utilized for recordings. After upgrading to 1.7.6 I tested 6 recordings and it worked. Then when 1.8.0 was released I upgraded and tested again with 6 recordings with no issues.

@johnm_ColaSC and @lvmickey

Yeah - what version of the HD software / firmware are you running?

I’m running the 20170707beta2 setup but my firmware is reporting 20170612beta1

Thanks!

oh and I don’t use the Live TV function right now - I may have tried it once when I first started using the DVR but I still have my TIVO’s running and use that for Live TV if I go to watch anything live.

Connects are 20170707beta2. Prime is 20170612beta1.

I just tried uninstalling and then reinstalling 1.8 behavior did not change. I start the first 2 recordings al is well. the third and 4th error untill you stop the 1st 2 then they take off. Plex never tries to use the other hdhomerun.

Shows in this order. around the 9:32-934 am mark
These 2 shows started fines.
CBS this morning
Fox news at 9

then added
the 700 club
Law and Order…

These 2 did not start until i stopped the first 2.

I am running 20170612beta1 on all of them at the moment. Thinking about updating to the new firmware (20170808beta2).

I completely skipped 1.6.x on my installs. Do you know if Plex has download links hidden for older versions?

I used to have this problem with my 2 HD Homerun Primes but with the 1.8 update I am able to get 4-5 recordings going at once or any combination of recordings and live TV up to the max 6 tuners. Running the server on Centos Linux 64 bit.

@lvmickey Post I made on another thread for how to get to downloads for other versions on Plex Server:

@johnm_ColaSC thanks

@srjinatl Did you do a uninstall and reinstall or did you do an upgrade?

@BRBMan Did you reboot when you uninstalled and reinstalled? I know it sounds someone old school but I have noticed with Plex that rebooting while uninstalled seems to help.

So tonights testing has been interesting. I used the procedure below. My DVRs started working after about 5 minutes of being up and canceling one show. If you get the unknown error cancel the bottom show with the error and see if the other shows that are errored started recording. I am currently recording 8 shows on all three Primes. I have not attempted live TV and don’t intend to until Football Season Starts.

Procedure
0) I updated to the newest HDHR Firmware earlier today.

  1. Uninstalled 1.8.0.4109
  2. Reboot
  3. Reinstall 1.8.0.4109
  4. Reboot

I just had a show error tonight myself. On investigation I see that Plex tried to record to one of my HDHR Connects:
Aug 09, 2017 23:30:00.528 [6552] DEBUG - DVR:Segmenter: Creating a new recorder for http://10.0.1.28:5004/auto/v57.1

Problem is both tuners for that device are currently recording 2 other shows.

Plex thinks it is recording one show on each HDHR Connect:

The other HDHR Connect is not being used at all:

So Plex must have a bug in the logic assigning tuners as it does not really know what tuners it is using for recordings apparently.

Plex does receive and error from tuner device that recording failed:
Aug 09, 2017 23:30:00.675 [10836] ERROR - [Transcoder] http://10.0.1.28:5004/auto/v57.1: Server returned 5XX Server Error reply

And I’m back to it doing the same thing again. This should be all the logs from reinstalling on and maybe before installing. Actually I’m worse. Plex doesn’t seem to be encoding the video from certain Tuners.
