Save filter settings for reuse later

Once I set a combination of filters and sort options is there a way to save them so that I don’t have to manually select them every time? For example, I want to filter TV shows for unwatched, sorted by air date, and displayed by episode in the list view. This gives me a listing of recent shows kind of like a DVR would. I want to be able to see this view all the time and from any device that has a Plex client (or at least the Web client).

+1

There’s no way to save them at this point. I’ll add it as a possible enhancement on our list.

Thanks for your time and considering this for an enhancement!

Yes this would be a superb feature.  Each time I look for a movie for my child I have to monotonously scroll through all the Genre filters and tick about 10 different ones that relate to kids / family movies.

Make all your filter and sorting selections, then click 'Add to playlist'

You get a so called 'Smart Playlist' which basically is your filter criteria stored in a playlist.

All you need to do afterwards is to call this playlist up. It will automatically update, once you add new media to the library that match your filter criteria.

I was happy to find that this does kind of work, but it’s unintuitive, and the “Playlist” View is still more conducive to music, rather than movies. At the very least Playlists of Movies should be able to optionally be show as a standard Movie Grid, and be able to filtered by watched, unwatched, etc.

Perhaps playlists could be within each library, if they are only of one Media Type, and not separated out as a generic entity as it is now.

Real saved filters that lived in and behaved like their proper media type would be a lot better.

Agreed.

@ericmatthys it’s been five years… Any chance you actually gonna implement this feature?

  1. IMHO, this should be a priority, as it would immensely help with navigation and finding stuff you’re looking for way faster.
  2. Navigating and finding stuff is probably the 2nd most important and most used feature of the media server, surpassed only by the ability to actually play the media itself, when you find it.

I am really disappointed, that the Plex devs priorities looks out of wack, as always

Seriously… five years for a feature like this… ridiculous. How many dev hours would it take to implement saving of the filter and 1 additional dropdown list for those saved filters in the library UI? 1 day?

Really…so close, just need to save the query…do we know if this is actually on a development to-do list??

I cannot believe this is not yet implemented. I keep trying to move over from OpenPHT - but due to not being able to set the entire library view to Unwatched, and ordered by Date Added has scuppered any chance I have of getting this past the “wife proof” test.
PMP has improved over the years - but why…oh…why can we not save the filters that we set.
And no…the Playlist workaround does not get any traction in this household. :frowning:

Just came across this thread… I have separate libraries, one for kids stuff and one for adult stuff. I’m obviously not trying to restrict the kids from watching the parents content, but having a place for them to look for content is extremely useful.

I share with remote non-plex pass users so making managed users with different permissions isn’t intuitive or useful.

I wish that it was possible to have a single movies directory and be able to pin filters server-side so they look like libraries.

sigh
