I think it would be a good idea if it were possible to add a direct download button to the photo viewer / player. A direct download button would allow for easy sharing of an individual photo. Perhaps an option to download an entire album / folder in zip format could be implemented too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the sync option just for syncing between Plex clients?
My vote for this feature! totally necessary mainly for the pictures!
This definitely needs to happen - for more than just picture libraries.
Why wouldnât there be an option right below âAllow Syncâ for each user to âAllow Downloadsâ.

Ugh, Just ran smack into this today, where my wife wants to download pics of our kids to use in a project, and she cannot.
What client are you using? In Plex Web, there is the download option. In Android Mobile, there is a share button that can be used to save tot he device or to pass through to another app. I think iOS app has this too.
I was using the web interface, and the download option is only visible when
I, the owner, log in. When my wife logs in, as a âfriendâ, she is not able
to download.

Only practical solution Iâve found is to use Emby which just allows downloading media uniformly. I still use Plex but Emby helps fill in the void for functionality Plex may never add.
Indeed downloading pictures for family sharing would make a lot of senseâŠ
Any photo library should have a download option. Grandparents want copies of their grandkids!

i canât seem to do this on my Android. No download option, only save and nothing happens. Grandparents seem to be able to download on their ios device but only at screen resolution. wtf? If I share a library with someone iâd say in most cases surely people wouldnât mind the best version (full res) being available so you can actually print it!

We can now download everything EXCEPT photo albums yet Plex is perfect for sharing kid photos and videos !

Plex has obviously gone through great lengths to prevent direct downloads from shared/home users from direct downloading and even printing pictures. Why? I would like my parents to be able to download photos of their grandchild. They are my pictures and I want to share them. However I donât even have the option to allow this. Only the admin account has this option. The feature is there. Direct download is already built-in to Plex. But only the admin account. This is terribly implemented and should be changed. Plex represents the freedom to share media with friends and family. Yet I see none in the photo sharing category. Please give us the ability to share our photos and allow printing from shared users and home users. And syncing is not a fix nor a band-aid.
An rethink on sharing photos from Plex is required. At the moment it is basically unusable.
This is still an issue. Shared users/Managed users are not able to download photos.

Please please reconsider adding a download photo button for shared users. This is all that is missing from being able to share photos with the rest of the family. They want to be able to print/share on social media our shared memories. Please reconsider not allowing this.
