I use plex for checking my surveillance webcam. For quick scanning an option for different playback speeds (x2, x4, x16) would be awesome.
Other purposes would be: education videos, audiobooks, interviews (for transcription).
What do you think?

I'm very interested in this feature for the iOS app, as I use plex to store many audio and video training courses that I much prefer to listen to at 1.5x or 2x speed. Sometimes even 3x if it's information I've heard before.
Currently I have it rigged using the VLC app to discover plex media server and then play the files through VLC (which does have playback speed control), but it's buggy. Also, it only works on my wifi network, which is annoying.
So +1 for this feature!

I don't think that the feature the OP requested matches the replies, but I really would like the feature that the replies ask for: 1.25x, 1.5x and 2x video/audio playback. it is important to have audio playback sped up with the video.
The use case for this type of playback is watching any type of educational material, some sports events, News programs. I watch almost every YouTube video at 2x speed. People can generally listen and absorb words faster than people can speak them.
In terms of a feature, go look at Youtube with their HTML5 player. you can control the speed, up to 2x, and you get both audio and video with that playback. some UI mechanism to make it go faster and slower would be great.
I have been watching the Daily Show and the Colbert report at 2x speed for years. Right now I have go watch these shows on a computer where I can use VLC. I would love to have this playback option on a Roku, iOS and the desktop players.
I would like to have this as well. Corrently I have to use AV-Player with Plex-DLNA. Unusefull.
Having a fast forward and rewind is definitely a great feature we would want!
In particular we would request this to be added to multiple clients right? Android, Windows, Chrome Browser app etc.

After some googling I have found solution. Chrome users can install plug-in called Video Speed Controller If anyone interested I found this information here

Tivo just added this feature. You can increase speed by 30%. I would LOVE this.
Bump! Love to see this feature come up. Anyone else interested? The way this voting works is terrible. Because you really have to scroll through a ton to find something you’re interested in that may not be “popular” yet.

Even more fine grained please (x1.1, x1.15, x1.2, etc). Super small increments make a huge difference.

TiVo has a feature called “Quickmode”. It allows you to increase the speed AND it pitch corrects the audio!

I would love this. I have a ton of movies that I only sort of want to watch. I tend to watch them while doing something else, like laundry. But I would love to binge watch 10 of these in a few hours at 2x (or at least faster than 1x) speed.
