How do extras work?

I have my own extras for a few movies.  I don't have flex pass so I'm not expecting automatic extras.  I just want to add the things I have to my library.

I followed the directions here in naming my file and I updated my server to the latest but my extra shows up as a separate movie rather than being integrated somehow into the movie it belongs to.  I tried updating my library AND refreshing the page.

How is it supposed to show up?   I'm thinking it would be an option on the same page where you can select the subtitles, right?   At this point there is no such option there at all.

Any help appreciated.

Scroll down and read the part on local extras.  You just need them named correctly.  If it is not working for you, please provide an exact example of the naming you are using.

I have followed the https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220677-Local-Media-Assets-Movies  to a tee.

i have tried this

  • Movie/Movie_Name (Release Date)/Descriptive_Name-Extra_Type.ext

Where -Extra_Type is one of:

  • -behindthescenes
  • -deleted
  • -interview
  • -scene
  • -trailer

I have also tried this

Where Extra_Directory_Type is one of:

  • Behind The Scenes
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Interviews
  • Scenes
  • Trailers

I have tried it on my existing plex server pc (winPro764 with movie files on shared drive on another pc z:\movies)

I have tried on new pc (win7U64 with movie files on local pc c:\movies)

I have tried MKV and Mp4 files

some movies are getting extras (trailer) from Freebase or whereever. I just want to fill in the gaps with my own trailer files.

I really love my movie trilers and its the only reason I signed up to plex premium

have been working on this for 4 hours now.

please help

Make sure, the movie you want to have local extras, has its own subfolder.

FYI, you can only use one of these two methods above for adding extras to one particular movie. So either you use the subfolder method OR the -extra_type filename suffix. Never both.

See an example I wrote up earlier for a concert DVD.

You might have to Refresh a particular movie after you added the extras files. Sometimes it helps to just leave this movie's detail page in Plex Web then navigate there afresh.

i have tried all that......

1. I absolutely don't understand this subfolder with the name . What is this?

2. contrary to my post above, you are using the folder and the filenamesuffix variant together, which doesn't work.

a working example would be

c:\movies\
   Welcome to Me (2014)\
      Welcome to Me (2014).mkv
      Trailer-trailer.mp4
      Behind the Scenes-behindthescenes.mp4
      Interview with Kristen Wiig-interview.mkv

After extensive file renaming, don't forget to Plex Dance™

the is just how 'windirstat' lists the folders so i could screen shot the directory layout. just pretend it not there as its not.

it just wont pickup local extras

:(

I have tried using the tags on the end of the files (by it self)

also tried using the folder name tags (by them selves)

tried both together

I did the dance thing.

my version is up to date

this is a fresh install of plex

I just dont know what I am doing wrong

I do own a small IT business. of witch I am also one of the techs. So I don't consider myself a dill. I know my way around files and folders and how to follow instruction from forums.

i fount this in 'com.plexapp.agents.localmedia.log'

looks like plex picks it up as a file and knows its a trailer????
just wont use it as a local extra

in what log file should i see that is uses the trailer files as a trailer for the movie?

The correct naming for the trailer (and all extras):

Welcome to Me (2014)-trailer.mp4

Welcome to Me (2014)-behindthescenes.mp4

Welcome to Me (2014)-interview.mp4

For any material that doesn't fit, you can be creative with any of the tags, for instance, if you had a 'bloopers' vid, just make it:

Welcome to Me (2014)-behindthescenes.mp4

or any of the other tags you're not already using. Then you can manually edit the description to better describe your content. Works with any extension (mp4, mkv, avi, whatever)

As Otto suggests above... after all this renaming and horsing around, you'll probably have to:

Move files out of Plex Area

update library

clean bundles

empty trash

Move Properly Named Files back

update library

I have done all that. Still not working

the 'Plex Dance' is an important step...

Move files

update

clean bundles

empty trash

Move files

update

Apart from that, very few clients support extras at all.

You should see them in the PlexWeb media manager or on a Roku with the current stock Roku App - not on RARFlix. I'm going to check to see if they work on PHT later today. I do know they absolutely don't work on Fire TV. Those are the only clients I have any experience with.

The correct naming for the trailer (and all extras):

Welcome to Me (2014)-trailer.mp4

Welcome to Me (2014)-behindthescenes.mp4

Welcome to Me (2014)-interview.mp4

For any material that doesn't fit, you can be creative with any of the tags, for instance, if you had a 'bloopers' vid, just make it:

Welcome to Me (2014)-behindthescenes.mp4

Not true, at all.

The filename part before the hyphen you can freely choose. There is absolutely no necessity to make it exactly like the movie's title.

Inspect my example

I have done all that. Still not working

I think it is time for a bundle reset:

1. end plex server

2. on the machine where PMS is running, under the useraccount where PMS runs, paste this into the adress bar of windows explorer:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Plug-ins

3. erase the following sub-directories:

- Framework.bundle

- LocalMedia.bundle

- Media-Flags.bundle

- PersonalMedia.bundle

- Scanners.bundle

- Services.bundle

- System.bundle

4. re-start Plex and let it sit for 10 minutes. Within that time it restores the directories you erased with fresh copies.

5. on the home page of Plex Web, click on 'Channels', then 'Check for Updates'

When it says 'All channels are up to date', you can start a new trial.

I have also done this a few times.

I have deleted the plugins folder 3 or 4 times to try and get it to work.

Is the library you are using really a movie library?

Did you perhaps create it originally as a home video library?

What is the primary scanner and agent setting for this library? (edit library, look under 'Advanced')

yes - is movie folder

no - not home video folder

this is a fresh install of plex server on a fresh pc with windows 7 x64

yes - checked the primary scanner - is set to personal media - was set to freebase

i am using the web client to see if trailer extra is available also i use the windows plex client to see if movie trailer is there - No in both clients

is there a log file that should show where it finds the 'EXTRA' content and includes it with the movie file.

I can only find log file that sees the trailer file and recognizes it as a trailer file so it does not add it as a movie

if you have time, you are most welcome to remote in to this pc and check the settings. PM me and I will give you the TeamViewer info

please set a language in your first screen shot.

set the primary agent back to freebase

when i click the drop down to set language. the only oprion is 'none'. there is no other language options there.

Local trailers do not work with the personal media agent. It needs to be on either freebase or themoviedb.
