Feature Request: Add "Unavailable" to filter list

There are many reasons for a file to be missing creating the database to mark an entry as Unavailable. It would be nice to be able to do a search via the filters to know how many titles are missing just like the duplicate filter lets you weed out accidental duplication.

One of the biggest reasons for this need is what happened when I lost a drive with over 4TB’s of movies and tv shows. I have backups of all my media but what makes thing difficult is determining just what titles where lost. I lost approximately 1,100 movies out of my collection of 6177. The only way to determine which titles where lost is to click on each movie one by one to see if they are Unavailable. This will take a very, very long time.

It would be greatly appreciated if Unavailable was added to the filters to be able to get a list of the missing titles.

First, disable automatic emptying of library trash.

Were your files in a sort of RAID volume?
Or JBOD?

Or an ordinary single volume with a dedicated mountpoint/drive letter?
If it was the latter, you could use Plex2CSV to export your movie library into a CSV file.
Then load that into an ordinary spreadsheet app and filter by ‘file location’.
This’ll give you a nice list of all the movies on a particular drive.

Shameless plug.

Or if you are on Windows. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/120292/moviefans-database-tool-for-plex

That will actually give you a list of unavailable movies.

To address your question. This would be hard to accomplish as a filter. Right now, Plex does not actually track if a file is available or not. Plex doesn’t check if a file is available until you either enter the preplay screen or try to play the file. Like my tool above, you would have to scan through each file to check if it existed. This could result in delays in getting the result if used as a filter.

Thanks for the info Moviefan. Fortunately this time I was able to get the failed disk to work just long enough to copy everything off of it so for now I am back to normal.

Early 2021 clean-up: implemented (filter by “in trash”)
