IMDb uses a payment system for a longer time already, so called IMDbPro. Ok, this is more or less for people who work in the industry so lets use a smaller subscription type: IMDbMeta
It’s not that important for Plex to get IMDb (since there are plenty of other sources) but for IMDb it would be really interesting.
If IMDb accepts a free-of-charge partnership with Plex this will happen:
Plex gets another great feature
Plex users are happy
IMDb has a higher change of getting paying users
IMDb just have to restrict API access to IMDbMeta (=paying) users.
I never would pay for IMDbPro (too much features I don’t need and thus a too high subscription fee) but if IMDbMeta is fairly priced I immediately would get such an account.
So IMDb, if you want to make more money you know what you have to do
Also, there’s an agent called Open Movie Database that pulls down IMDb content. I use it for release year because The Movie Database has an incoherent policy on what constitutes the year a film is released.
Google has decided to destroy it. Like they do to everything else great they create.
It says it went read-only 8 months ago, I guess whatever metadata agent setup I have now is safe because I’m still getting what I need for newer items.

Yeah the current meta agents are OK. But I really liked freebase. And I am really beginning to hate Google for screwing up everything they create and get everybody hooked on, then destroy.
I am really hoping that somebody creates something new like it. I wish they could grab the data and mirror the structure. But, I haven’t seen anything on the structure, no sql commands or table info. So, I don’t see that happening.

I guess I just don’t understand what freebase is or was. What’s the difference between the one currently in Plex and the one that’s shutting down?

a couple of us are working on site that covers all the available 3rd party add-ons as there is definitely a need for a central resource. A couple more weeks and it should be fairly comprehensive.

Any chance you could tell us what they are and/or link to them? Many of us are less than totally sophisticated and just trying to get things to work.

Any news on this. I would really like such a site. Especially if it compares the relative pros and cons of all the available agent sources. This confuses the heck out of me. It seems like constant trial and error. I can’t find the info I want on what each agent source does/has etc.
