Is Freebase going bye-bye?

I saw this on Freebase's website today....

I don't understand this API stuff I just enjoy the benefits after the hard work of others  :)

So does this mean that Freebase will no longer be available soon as a Metadata Agent?

btw, thanks Plex and the others that have created these extra agents and channels.

Sure would be swell if we got an answer on this...but I wouldn't expect one.

There was a previous thread talking about the same thing [here](https://forums.plex.tv/topic/132161-moving-from-freebase-to-wikidata/). No Plex staff answers there either, and the latest plexpass release still has Freebase as the primary agent I'm guessing.

Basically it just boils down to Freebase going away and a transition to Wikidata will eventually be necessary. Since March 31st no new info can be inserted into Freebase, but all old data can still be queried just fine and should work with the metadata agent same as always. However for all new movies that have no info in Freebase the metadata agent's workaround logic takes over to try and match the movie name through alternative means (sometimes significantly less accurate I've found). Also they mention something about the site **AND** API being retired June 31st...but when they say retired its never clear what they mean. Do they mean completely shutoff, or left on but zero support, or left on but halfway working...lol. It's hard to tell. The site itself doesn't matter for Plex, just the API.

The eventual solution will need to be a new metadata agent for Wikidata, however the Wikidata API is apparently not nearly as functionally complete as was Freebase's query API. So we need to wait for them to finish designing/finalizing their own API before a stable metadata agent can even be written...it's a whole can of joyful worms.
