Been searching the forums but couldn’t find optimal Handbrake encoder settings for the PlayStation 3 Plex app. Can anyone help?
I’m using a Seagate Personal Cloud, so obviously I have to convert all video files to MP4 to avoid transcoding, but when I encode using Handbrake, when trying to play on the PlayStation 3’s Plex app, I get sound but no video (black screen).
There should be no real magic required here. I use MKV files which are not ideal for PS3 but for me is better for other platforms. All the other settings are simple:
If you’re using MP4 containers then I recommend Web Optimised
Video Codec: H.264
Framerate: Same as source
x264 Preset: Fast
x264 Tune: None/Film (Fast Decode optional - I don’t think it makes a difference on PS3)
H.264 Level: 4.0
H.264 Profile: Main
Audio: I always ensure the first track is AAC (avcodec) Stereo, and then if the source has 5.1 I add that as a second option using AC3. I also pass through DTS if present. This causes slightly larger files but for my setup allows the best quality audio my systems can handle.
david your correct but mkv cant be direct played it needs to be mp4 on ps3/4 and those are the settings i use to direct play but keep in mind quality settings in app must be on original for it to work if the app ps3 app isnt set to original quality and direct play isnt enabled it wont work
I have a quick question about that helpful Handbrake profile that you gave me, is there any way I can maintain the original quality of the video file while also allowing the file to remain MP4 and playable on the PS3 Plex App? Unfortunately, when playing on Plex, the video files are extremely pixelated after being converted via Handbrake
