Instead of LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes Justice League Cosmic Clash (2016).mkv
being detected and matched to LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash
Plex detects it as LEGO Directors Cut Comics Super Heroes Justice League Cosmic Clash
and therefore doesn’t match it.
Would it be possible to have the matcher skip DC if it has Comics after it?
Try naming it this or - if : doesn’t work.
LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash (2016).mkv
It’s not the naming of the file I’m worried about it’s the way the scanner detects the file name. I’m hoping a Plex dev will see this as this really isn’t the expected way it should be detecting it.

Err actually most of the time, it is the naming convention at fault. Tell me you at least tried the suggestion before completely dismissing it blindly?
Omitting invalid characters (on Windows you can’t use colons in file or folder names) is normally the right thing to do. (instead of substituting them with other characters)
I’d suggest using the .nfo file trick and be done with it.
Just a thought, because I have had the problem with matching a couple of DC Comics movies. The “DC” seems to confuse the scanner, because it thinks it is shorthand for the “Director’s Cut” of a movie. And I can see why there would be people upset if something changed so the abbreviated director’s cut title no longer worked. It’s “can’t win” situation, if that is the problem.
For this particular movie, “Fix incorrect Match” found the correct title immediately for me.
Actually there’s quite an easy fix and it wouldn’t cause any issues. DC followed by Comics should always match as so and not match as Director’s Cut, there’s never going to be a reason to have Director’s Cut Comics as it just doesn’t make sense.

For the fact that it makes it instantly when I open the “match” screen it shows that the scanner is at fault.
I work on Sickrage and we have issues like this just the same as Plex does, this would be fixed by just having the scanner skip “DC Comics” as a matchable string when looking for “Director’s Cut” strings.
This topic is a few months old but has there been any resolve… What is the status of this? Does the newest build of PMS correctly scan DC Comics file names?
It seems to still do this.
That’s most disappointing…
So, I still see the issues on v1.6.1. How do the newer versions (v1.7.xxxx) compare?
Still an issue on there too.
I still see the issues on version 1.9.2. How do the newer versions (v1.9.6+) compare?
I think the DC Comics vs Director’s Cut identification problem was corrected for a while, but the fix seems to have been misplaced in later versions. Or at least not consistent. Maybe it has to be exactly “DC Comics” and not just “DC”, or maybe it depends on the agent.
Fix Incorrect Match has always worked for me, but we shouldn’t have to do this when the correct title contains “DC” and something like “Apocalypse Now DC” is really a different version of the same movie, and not actually a real movie title.

lol, Yeah… Maybe it needs to be Detective Comics
. Wouldn’t that be funny…

Wonder how many people actually know the “DC” is an abbreviation of “Detective Comics”?
Which could mean that the actual title could/should be something like:
LEGO Detective Comics Comics Super Heroes: Justice League: Cosmic Clash (2016).mkv
Back to topic…
The logic Plex uses seems to consider “DC” to be an abbreviation of “Director’s Cut” and applies that in the search while scraping. As we know, it usually ends up with a mismatch, or none at all, even though A “Fix Incorrect Match” will find the exact title right away.
If any of the devs are watching the thread, if the file name/title contains DC
or DC's
or DC Comics
than search first for that exact title-- example
DC Showcase The Spectre (2010).mkv
matches to the correct title DC Showcase: The Spectre
and if that fails, search for
Showcase The Spectre
and/or Showcase The Spectre (Director's Cut)
as the director’s version of the movie.
and we have to hope there is never a director’s cut version of DC Super Hero Girls: Hero of the Year
because we’ll never get a match.
Having the same issue.
Highly annoying as when I add new stuff to library and then scan, the DC all change back to (Directors Cut) and I have to edit them one by one every ,… single… time… to the point its super super annoying…
It should be programmed that people who DO want directors cut have (DC)… you know… in brackets… so if its in brackets, it will assume a directors cut, if not, then DC stays as it is
Im sure plex devs can program a simple thing like this?

The only workaround I found that seems to work is name the folder without the DC but keep the DC in the filename.
e.g.
Super Hero High (2016)\DC Super Hero High (2016) [720p].mkv
Is it right? Don’t know, but it works for me without issue.

Me personally think directors cut should be tagged Director’s Cut in the file name.
I can not think of a single movie where they shorten the Director’s Cut in the title to DC.
That in itself sell movies. It’s the Super Duper Worst Movie Ever (Director’s Cut). Yes, I must buy that. It’s the Director’s Cut. It must be better.

Hmm I’ll try that tomorrow and see if it stops renaming them when I rescan the library after new videos added. Might be another couple weeks before add new stuff so I’ll see.
You defo have a point about the DC shortening. I’ve never seen directors cut named to DC ever… I hope plex deva read what we said and stop it messing up DC content.
It took me 4 hours to get library back to normal other day as I added 2 new films (one was DC) and if course it renamed every single DC stuff back to (directors cut) several times after me editing it back. (had to edit same file 4 to 6 times for it to stop and finally stick to what I renamed it to)
