I have 2 accounts that I use for Plex. One of them is the main account, which is Plex Pass, and the other is a testing account on a different email address which is NOT Plex Pass. I logged into plex.tv on the testing account the other day to test a few things and then forgot I was logged into it. I exited out, and went along with the normal stuff I usually do on the forums.
And then I noticed that I didn’t have a Plex Pass icon under my name on posts I had made. I logged back into plex.tv to see that I was logged in there with the test account. As soon as logged out and then back in with my main account, low and behold, my Plex Pass icon came back.
The forums showed that I was still logged in with the main account, but it seems the plex.tv account info somehow brought across something, somewhere. Posts I made while logged into that test account still had this user ID, and now they show the Pass… but they didn’t while I was logged in with the other account.
Just thought someone might want to know about it…
Could it have been a browser cache oops? I’m not suggesting the forum isn’t goofy because it has been.
Easiest way to prove that would be to repeat the sequence, flushing the browser cache for plex.tv (last 24 hours worth) and then signing back in with the other account. Wash, rinse, repeat.
If you can repeat it, give me a sequence, I’ll do the same and submit the bug to the forum provider.
hehe, @ChuckPa thanks for the reply, I do appreciate it, even though I found a lot of humor in it.
Steps: Log off of Plex.tv with your pass account, log in with a non-pass account. close that window. Open up the forums on a browser set to auto login with your Pass account. Pass icon disappears for your posts. Log back into plex.tv and log off the non-pass account, log in with a Pass account, posts magically get the Pass icon added to them. I can repeat this on 2 different machines, one of which hasn’t been to the forums since moving to this board.
What I find humorous, BTW, is I already have invested to beta Plex with a Pass. And now I’m playing beta for the forums, too?
It’s just a bit of irony, IMO…
My reply was sincere. I did not intend it to be humorous in any way. Were I to be joking, it would be obvious.
- Which browsers have you tested this on?
- Is the same behavior observed on all?
Oh, I know you did… And don’t be angry man…
Edge and Firefox (Edge on one machine, Firefox on other.)
Does the behaviour change, if you hit https://forums.plex.tv/sso right after logging in to plex.tv with a different account?
Yes,
That logs me in as the second account, and not as the main Pass account. (Even though I have the forum set to remember the main Pass account, not the second non-pass account.) So the bug might be in that I had the Forum tab open at the same time I changed ID’s on plex.tv, then went back to the open forum tab. the forum might have been confused, since I may have had 2 different sets of credentials.
And as you can see, I can post in the pass forums as a non-pass member by hitting that link and then going back to an open window that was previously logged in with a Pass user ID.
(Yes, that’s my second account…)
The main plex.tv site and forums.plex.tv are only loosely coupled.
(That’s a good thing, you sure remember the last forum hack ~18months ago.)
By signing out from plex.tv the authentication token for forums.plex.tv was not destroyed (at least not immediately).
Thus your browser (yes, it affected only your own browser) leads a half-life as ‘Mike.G6.5’ and ‘Elrique64’.
So it appears as though the problem I encountered is more the way I use the forums with multiple tabs open, (to copy paste, etc.) and not a problem within the forum software. OK, that’s good to know, and you guys can spend time on something else now…
