PMS does not capture any UK subtitles on any programme, yet the HDHOMERUN software does

I recorded the same programme with plex and HDHOMERUN software; the HDHOMERUN recording does capture subtitles but Plex does not.

Can plex actually capture DVB subtitles?

Here is a link to the files : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/w3riqfp5bv15v0y/AAAKnhI-9Q0kbCZUKmwS8gLua?dl=0

Anyone else can confirm?

This bug obviously only occurred with PMS 1.8, and it means I cannot use the DVR function of plex; we do need subtitles in my household.

Hi there - i’m new to the forums have just got a HD homerun connect and trying to record with subtitles in the UK.
Plex seems to be creating mkv files without subtitles in them like you’ve said - did you get anywhere with finding out how to sort this?

PMS 1.8 doesn’t use MKV anymore. It uses .ts

@wiztronic Make sure you have the Plex Pass Download selected when going to Plex.tv/downloads. If it is not turned on then you are not getting the current Plex Pass release but the latest General/Public release.

Can confirm I’m experiencing the same issue on 1.8 with dvb subtitles. There’s simply no subtitle stream in the mux.
This was not an issue in earlier versions (before Plex started forcing mkv remux), and now that we’re back to TS the subtitles are broken - which is quite ironic in itself because I’m under the impression that the return to TS was to preserve subtitles that went missing during the remux…

There has been no comment from plex yet; live tv and dvr has just come out of beta - how they missed this bug, I do not known. Hard of hearing people cannot really use plex dvr because of this, at least, in the uk anyhow.

Does UK use DVB-subtitles? I’m using this in Finland and it doesn’t capture DVB-subtitles, so using it is a no go. It did capture them in one of the betas, but was removed. Can’t use it as a daily driver because of this issue.

Yes, the uk does.

Ok, well this has been the case for all of the releases, except for one beta release. I don’t know why they removed that/haven’t added it. Can’t currently use the DVR because of this.

it’s a known issue, plex are aware of it, but I have no time frame when it will be fixed sorry.

That’s not good at all.

I have to use the hdhomerun app to record things to get subtitles, which I then have to put into plex.

I canceled my Plex Pass because such an important feature is missing. Along with the fact that I can only watch 8 channels of about 20 freeview channels in Finland. Adding DVB scanning frequencies would be easy but cannot be done manually…

For now you can use the hdhomerun app to do your recording instead.

Actually I’m using EyeTV at the moment but looking for a functioning product to switch to. Channels DVR, Plex and Hdhomerun all have some key features still missing but as a AppleTV user Channels is way ahead in competition.

Do consider emby. They support dvb subtitles.

1.8.1 has no mention of fixing the problem if not capturing dvb subtitles. Subtitles are still not being captured? Can anyone at PLEX comment on this? I do believe, and I cannot find, an official word on this bug in all my searches of the forums here.

I got this from HDHOMERUN:

DVB format subtitles are not yet supported by our player apps. Subtitles are recorded and subtitle display support is planned.
