DS418play and hardware decoding support.

Hello,

I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but I seem to be getting conflicting answers probably from outdated posts.

I have a DS418play nas up and running
Plex is running, from the synology binaries taken from plex’s website
I have a plex pass.
It’s running the latest 1.10.x version.

Now, on the web interface…

In Manage, Settings, Transcoder, I don’t get any “Use Hardware Transcoding” or any similar option.

I see “Transcoder Quality”, “Transcoder Temporary Directory”, “Transcoder default buffer”, background transcoding preset x264, and max simultaneous video transcode.

I can see CPU usage blow up to 99% with random buffering depending on the video media being played. I assume that the hardware transcoding option?

So, am I missing an option?

Is hardware transcoding possible at all , right now?

Did you download the 64 bit version? Hardware Transcoding requires the 64 bit binary

The DS418play has the Intel Apollolake J3355 CPU

DS418play Intel Celeron J3355 Dual Core 2 Yes Apollolake DDR3L SO-DIMM 2GB

Well I’ll be damned! It seems that I was running the regular version. I just updated to the latest 1.11 build, 64 bits, and now I see the option!

Thanks a lot Chuck!!

I installed: PlexMediaServer-1.12.0.4829-6de959918-x86_64 but I still don’t see the option for hardware transcoding. What am I missing? Do I need to delete my plex folder and user, uninstall and start from scratch?

You don’t have a valid, active Plex Pass. Hardware transcoding is a premium feature.
