An Error occured while attempting to play this video - Amazon Fire TV Media Player

For the last few days I am getting an error - An Error An Error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please try restarting both the Plex Media Server and this app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times on the media player.

The same app works fine on Roku and on desktop so I am assuming this has to do something with the app on Amazon Fire Media Player. Not sure if there was an automatic update or anything of that sort since Plex app has worked seamlessly on this media player before.

Can you please advise how to get this fixed ?

Thanks.

Can anyone please assist on this - tried reinstalling the app, restarting media server but the same issue persists ?

Thanks.

Hey,
Had the same thing. Disable " play smaller videos in Original". Or something similar called.
I found it by accident when uninstalling and reconfiguring the app.
Only thing for me it was a problem when remote streaming.

Hope that helps for you as well.

First, thank you Streamerx. Glad someone atleast replied, I was under the impression that Plex would be providing support to paid users. I guess not.

I did try that option but that didn’t help. I am streaming locally - both the media server and Fire TV are on the same network.

Not sure what else can I try ?

I don’t know, but delete the codecs folder and try again.

Thanks again Streamerx…

Deleted Codecs folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server

Unfortunately that didn’t work either…

Please provide the log from the fire tv after recreating the problem.

Thanks for the response.

Where can I find these logs ? I looked under AppData/Local/PlexMediaServer/Logs and found Plex Media Server log file that was updated as I recreated the problem but there isn’t much in the logs besides this -

Let me know if this is helpful or where can I get what you are looking for specifically.

Nope, not useful. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/

OK.

See attached.

That said, I see all my files in the Plex app on Fire TV, as I add the new ones, they just don’t play.

LMK if you need anything else. Thanks.

Your log shows you are trying to play an avi file using a tscc2 video codec and no audio. Is that correct? I don’t think we support this. I’ve never heard of the tscc2 codec. Can you provide me a sample so I can test?

Edit - A little Googling says this codec is used by the Camtasia Video Editing software. Have you been able to playback other files that have this codec before?

There’s a problem with the AndroidTV client and videos w/o an audio track.

Edit: Adding log from Nvidia Shield TV. Videos are named “jellyfish-03-mbps-hd-h264” and “jellyfish-05-mbps-hd-h264.” Videos play fine w/ Plex Media Player (Win 10) and Plex Web (Chrome/Win10).

MovieFan.Plex,

That is correct. These are video files wihout any audio, created using Camtasia and saved as avi files.

These files used to play fine before, I have been using them for months now. This problem started just recently - perhaps after the Server update or app update.

Are you looking for a sample avi file ?

Thanks.

I think I know the problem so a sample isn’t needed right now. It appears that you have enabled audio pass-through. Since there is no audio, the player is confused on what to pass-through so it is failing. I will test this and check with the devs and see what they think.

Your logs show the same passthrough being enabled.

As a work-around for now, don’t enable pass-through.

Edit - Nevermind. It’s not related to the pass-through setting. The player seems to fail when there is no audio.

OK, do you need me to do anything on my end or wait for a patch or something ?

Just wanted to follow up on this - I tried to play the file on my S8 note - Android 7.1.1 - experienced the same issue. I will test this on Roku tomorrow to see if it works there.

Any updates on this issue ?

The video works fine through Roku and iPad - so its only an issue with Android.

Please advise.
