Plex isn’t pulling metadata from thetvdb for about a month. The series and episode pictures are downloading but the details are not. Is there a known issue or do you think this is unique to me.

I am running the latest beta version on ubuntu linux. Movies appear to work properly but TV episodes that either uploaded or recorded via DVR do not pull down episode data. The series data works as well as the pictures and background theme.

Easy to correct.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Manually clear the HTTP Caches: https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967376-clearing-plugin-channel-agent-http-caches
  3. Start PMS
  4. Go back and refresh the missing metadata. If a lot, just refresh the entire library section.

Not working. It’s another bug.
forums.plex.tv/discussion/313863/metadata-wont-update-for-tv-shows#latest

look at the referenced host. api.thetvdb.com.

Not a bug per se. TheTVDB went down… again

Nothing any of us can do sadly

The developer sub-forum on TheTVDB forum has a thread regarding this. There are about a dozen posts, so hopefully somebody from TheTVDB that can do something has seen the thread and is looking into this.

@ChuckPA: I might be misunderstanding it, but I thought Plex hosted a cached version (thetvdb.plexapp.com) that was updated every 8 hours. Is that still used or is that just another URL for hitting api.thetvdb.com?

If it’s the latter, then it doesn’t really matter. But if it’s the former, shouldn’t metadata still be able to be fetched for anything that was not added since the last update?

This is really for my understanding, so while a detailed response would be appreciated, please feel free to just give a short simple answer.

Plex caches some of the data but not all of it. I’ve always been curious about why there’s not a full Plex-resident copy. Maybe it’s that huge?
Today is a good day for me to ask “Why NOT host it all?” :slight_smile:

Before I make any BIG waves?

Has normal operation returned? TheTVDB was down overnight

Thanks for the quick reply.
And I agree with your last line :smile:

Sorry for double posting, wanted to make sure you got the notice of this.

I haven’t tried refreshing metadata again from Plex, but I did try accessing api.thetvdb.com via a browser and was met with an error. It wasn’t the 503 connection error but a 522 error that appears to be CloudFare specific according to a post from thetvdb.com forum. So I would think it’s not working still.

@shark2k

Please verify Plex status.

Also, approximately where are you in the global sense ? Western Europe?

@ChuckPA
Still having issues pulling metedata on my side.

@ChuckPA

I am still having issues pulling metadata on my side within Plex.
As for my location, I’m in the US on the East coast.

@milokral

Which global region are you please?

To all:

##Operations team is on it.

@ChuckPA

I’m located in Toronto, Canada. So I guess that falls in Eastern NA?

Thanks. A strange partial outage

Thank you! This corrected my issue!

Happening again today, but clearing the cache is not doing anything.

@“Kyle Verry”

I got your post in the other thread. No need to reply here :slight_smile:
