Show mid-season specials inline

Special episodes often occur within a season of a TV show. Great example: Doctor Who's most recent Christmas special, which functions as an actual episode, but is classified as a "Special". It'd be nice if that sort of episode was listed inline in the episode list, after the episode it aired after (TheTVDB has that info).

This is a good idea. Although I think it probably is the best to show all episodes in their proper order (including specials ;) ), and the ability to change the order of the episodes. It occurs from time to time that TheTVdb have incorrect info about episode order, and since they don't fix it (at least not until the show has ended) it would be splendid to have the possibility to fix it in ones own database.

^ This is a valid point, but it's an entirely separate issue.

Yes, it is. Although the issue with the special episodes in my opinion should be described as a general issue with the viewing of the episodes' order. Anyway, I think if (nah, when) they fix it they will fix it altogether. (At least I hope so.)

This is my primary gripe with Plex at the moment. Any sort of fix would be much appreciated

Previously, I have just tacked them on at the beginning or end of seasons, since they fit there anyway, and not having the metadata for them wasn't an issue. As noted in the previous post, this is no longer possible with the current season.(and maybe one other? can't remember at the moment)

I tried naming the special S07e05.5 and S07e05-5, but it would not even show up in plex.

I don't mind a temporary fix that does not include metadata if it means I can get the shows listed in the proper order, but if i were to make it s07e06, the remainder of the season would just be wrong in terms of names and metadata(along with the special of course), so that doesn't work either.

Of course, the best implementation of this would be leaving the special named S06E66, but being able to designate in between which episodes it should be listed in season view, or perhaps just a way of forcing certain shows to list episodes in order of air date.

Of note the tvdb already contains the data to do this for most specials.. The Airs Before basically tells you to stick this right before episode .....

Airs Before:

Airs After Season:

First Aired:

Indeed it does, and I'd really really want it, basically for Dr.Who and some other shows.

+1

Would be great to see this feature too! You've got my vote :)

Surprised there hasn't been more interest in this one to be honest. Make sure you like the first post if you're in favour of this!

I'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult to implement this enhancement... are we likely to see this happen? :)

I'm not sure.. It seems that the three  things I would want the most for plex are not cared about that much..

(This, mkv transcoding fancy subs without breaking them, and mkv ordered chapters)

At the very least I assume this should be popular enough that we hopefully will see this fixed eventually.. I don't have much hope for the other two however.

The simple version is the option to flatten a show so all episodes, regardless of season, are shown in order of air date.  This has been mentioned previously as a solution for mini-series as well.  It's not that it is not popular, but a simple solution has already been suggested.

Thanks for pointing this out, I hadn't seen the other thread..!

Just in case anyone views this thread in future... take a look over here instead... and like the first post if you agree! :)

I would like this very much! I recently started watching Dr Who (2005) and was very upset to find out that I had accidentally skipped a bunch of episodes because they were "specials"

this issue has also broken Top Gear quite a bit...

Please please add this option :)

I completely agree, this is probably my biggest issue with Plex. I have to go to The TV DB and look up when specials aired so that I know when to watch them in a season. Labeling them as specials and displaying them inline with the rest of the season's episodes would be great.

I too would love to see this feature added. In particular I want this because of TV series which include movies (such as Babylon 5, Ghost in the shell, etc.)

Bought a Plex Pass just to request this feature and found it already..

Doctor Who and Battlestar Galactica would great benefit from this.. but also British drama and comedies with their Xmas specials.

I also think this would be a great feature.

See the suggestions in Season 0 doesn't work...

On Deck presents things by date not episode number so if you use that it will present you with specials as they aired between episodes or seasons ( assuming you have the correct aired dates in metadata) So if you mark the entire show as unwatched and start from the beginning it will do that.

( i understand you are asking for it in the regular episode list just letting you know how it can do that now)
