I think this is what you're looking for, and believe it or not, it is related to the audio driver. Since you're a plexpass member, you should be able to find it here, starting with Tobias' post:
I came here after a search for the same issue. I’m not on Linux however, instead I’m on OS X. Here I have the same issue that DTS causes the playback speed to increase to about 120%, just enough to make voices high pitched. Disableing DTS / switching to Analog solves the issue with the playback speed but obviously decreases the sound quality. I’m not familliar with Linux so I don’t know if the solution provided in the linked thread somehow applies to OS X too…
I am having the problem on any video with Dolby 5.1. non-dolby 5.1 playback is ok. A The link that MattyK provided is not working, unfortunately.
I messed around with my audio drivers (ubuntu 13.10) because i couldnt get 5.1 playback through my optical-out. (or at least the ubuntu sound utility didnt recognize it as 5.1, only 2 channel). I fixed the drivers by removing and reinstalling pulseaudio.
Any suggestions or at least a fixed link in MattyK's post?
I'm also having the same issue, playback seems as if it is on 120x or more playback speed.
this only is happening to Plex as all my other video apps including Kodi work just ine.
I have a quad core intel with a nvidia gpu /w hdmi out which is running the video/audio to a 1080p TV and yamaha receiver.
I can't see how this is in anyway related to hardware/software that is not a part of plex since I have already stated, everything else runs just fine outside of plex including Kodi.
I have the same problem. This was working when I had the server formatted as window 7. I recently converted it to Ubuntu 15.04 and all of a sudden dts just doesn’t work. The reciever is a denon avr-4310ci.
