This was discussed in another thread, but it seems from the thread that it really needs to be a feature request.
These are the only features needed to integrade podcasts into Plex:
UI to add xml feed of an audio or video podcast
Mechanism for regularly checking the feeds and retreiving the media, and then storing it somewhere on the computer running the Plex server
Scanner/Agent (I'm not sure which) for getting metadata from the xml stream
Two new types of section: Audiio Podcast and Video Podcast (because Podcasts are not done in seasons, but are typically just infinitely enumerated or labeled by date)
One setting that might be good, too, is to include a setting for how long to keep media (since it can accumulate quickly if you have lots of feeds).
There are so many great audio and video shows available on RSS feeds for free! It would be awesome to have a convenient way to consume them in Plex.
Anything sub-features I'm missing? Please add a commment.
I've been looking into this today, and I think the download station will work fine to be able to lump shows into a \Podcasts folder. I guess another nice add would be a folder for each show instead of just lumping the files all in one directory. But I don't know this is necessary.
The only think I think that is really needed is a new Library for Podcasts and I guess a background job to scrape out the Show info from the MP3s, MP4s (I assume all the info is in the files) so there is something to display in the UI.

I agree that organized folders would be a good idea. Especially since that's how Plex likes TV shows to be.

Yes, this is the bare minimum to add Podcasts as a feature of Plex.
One more (unimportant) part of this request I'd like to add: Please test integration by using the shows on TWiT.tv (So those work first -- since those are my favs :) )
I think this would be a fantastic feature. Perhaps someone with much more technical savvy than me could look at creating a PocketCasts plug in as it is a pretty fantastic podcast program already - all it needs is integration with Plex.
Seems that if there was a Podcast database Agent that could be used in TV Shows this would work. That way you get synced ‘watched’ status, and grouped by podcast name.
Today I tried out using a Music library for my podcasts. It works… a little. For podcasts that have tagged their files it works reasonably nicely. However, there are plenty of gaps, most notably watched status
My current setup, I use Ichapod to download the Mp3’s with meta data, and album art. Then just load them in an Basic Music Album with last.fm matching off. This would work fine so long as we could get something to remember position in mp3’s like in movies and Tv shows. Which, funnily enough, according to Elan. Is coming!
