@adamska46 could you try with 4K resolution, new experimental player enabled AND Direct Play disabled (from settings) and see if it happens too?
I’ve tried many things and I can’t reproduce it yet

Yes.
I also noticed that the new beta does not switch the frame rate on my older TVs that are 1080p as the previous one did. I think that may be related.
Edit: as I was doing the tests again to capture more info the tv was switching modes but the video was choppy on the latest beta. I will capture more info and post it in a separate thread.
Oops! We’re very sorry about this, everyone. We’ve identified the issue and it’ll be fixed in the next beta.
For those curious as to why it only affected certain videos, it happens for videos that don’t have seek thumbnail images generated by the server.
Thanks for bringing the issue to our attention!
I can confirm this is resolved with Plex 1.36 (10914). Thanks for all the hard work!
It’s a beta, no worries! The newest build works great again! And we could revert to the previous build, so I could still use Plex. TestFlight works great for these issues.
Does this player actually use the seek thumbnails? I turned that off on a server forever ago since no player that I had ever used them and take up a huge amount of space. Other players for the ATV give a scrubbing window without having to create these on the server, so I’d highly suggest that method.
Agree, would be nice if this could be implemented.
So is this supposed to natively play HEVC 4K on an ATV 4K? When I try to play a 4K video I am seeing the PMS direct stream with the container, video, and audio all being transcoded. Is that expected?
When I play via Infuse everything is direct play.
What is the audio track? TrueHD by chance? If so, the audio is causing what you are seeing. For me, TrueHD gets transcoded to EAC3 and this causes the direct stream instead of play. With DTS-MA you will play the core and you will get direct play.
Also - and I’m not sure about this - but isn’t HDR not yet supported? Could be the cause as well.
Sounds like the problem is either the video is HDR or the audio track is not supported for direct play
I think it was HDR. I just remembered it’s not supported.
