Today’s update broke new video player playback, audio only for me, then very hard to exit out.
Exact same problem here. Not working on any files I’m playing.
It is working fine here with many files I tried Could you try rebooting the device and see if that helps?
Removed app, rebooted, clean installed app, sill no go.
Have you tried files with different formats? Could you share logs? Or even take a video of the app when this happens and share it with me.
Thanks!
Yes, I have tried different formats, I will take video later tonight, I have reverted back to previous build for the evening.
The devs will find the following a lot more helpful:
Per the beta announcement post:
Continuing the discussion from New Apple TV & iOS Video Player available in Beta:
Attached are the logs and XML for a file that won’t play with MPV on this build or the previous build.
Audio starts but screen stays black, eventually a single frame will show.
Logs appear to show ffmpeg errors with hardware acceleration.
The file plays without issue in the standard player.
Other files would play on the previous build but now give a black screen with audio playing.
HarryPotter720p.zip (42.0 KB)
Is it just the video black but you can swipe down the remote to access the video info, subtitles, and all that? Or it’s black and you can’t do anything at all?
Same here - reverted back til the workday is over - then I’ll try and gather things.
Mine actually shows a grey screen with the loading wheel and then audio starts playing. Then it’s difficult to exit - I’ll press menu to go back to the home (ATV home) and the audio will still be playing. I’ll have to actually quit Plex to get it to stop. I reverted back to the previous build and played again and it was fine - are logs still useful even though I’ve played something successfully afterwards?
EDIT: Nvm - I see the logs disappear after 20 minutes. I’ll get them later tonight.
And logs and xml for a file that does play in the previous build, but does not in today’s build.
I played the file until the single frame appears (the titles). AttackClones.zip (55.5 KB)
Button presses (pause or menu) take a long time to respond, but do eventually. Swiping does not respond.
Actually, swiping does respond after a long delay (I walked away to write this post, when I can back it had swiped down).
Here are my logs with the same symptoms as JDWL.
logging (1).zip (387.0 KB)
Here’s the xml info XML info.webarchive.zip (17.8 KB)
Thanks for the logs! Unfortunately I can’t see anything relevant I have no idea what’s happening.
I might contact some of you via DM with different builds if you can test them and tell me if any of them solve the issue.
No video for me on Apple TV. Uninstalled and started fresh with a production build for now.
Sometimes after the initial black screen, I get one frame about every 10 or 15 seconds. It’s very weird. It’s happening on every day h.264/MKV files in both 720P in 1080P. Audios fine in all cases.
Does this release require v1.14 for PMS?
Problems here as well, massive stuttering of video (audio is fine)
I am having the same issue. It seems to be related to the resolution that is being used on the display.
ATV 4k + Samsung TV at 4k HDR Resolution = No Video
ATV 4k + Samsung TV at 4k SDR Resolution = No Video
ATV 4k + Samsung TV at 1080p SDR Resolution = Video is Displayed
ATV 4 + JVC TV 1080p SDR = Video is Displayed
ATV 4 + Other Samsung TV 1080p SDR Resolution = Video is Displayed

Thanks a lot, that’s very useful!
Are all these with the very same TV, just changing the resolution/format in the tvOS settings?
I have the same issue since the latest beta, I can’t watch any video with the new experimental player enabled. A black screen appears, and the user interface cannot be shown by swiping down the AppleTV Remote
My setup : AppleTV 4K, with 4K output to Philips 4K TV
Indeed, if I select 1080p resolution in tvOS settings, all the videos then get properly played.
