Just switched to a Shield TV from a Fire TV box and the only feature that I miss is being able to skip forward and back. The GUI on the Shield is much better, but it definitely takes longer to skip opening credits or rewind when I miss something in a show. I know this seems like a minor quality of life issue, but when you’re in the midst of an anime marathon, it’s so nice to just be able to hit the skip button 3 times to get past the credits sequence. I’d suggest that for Shield users, the shoulder buttons of the controller would be intuitive physical controls. But, even just adding 30 second skip buttons under the scrub bar in the UI would be handy. I saw that this was a feature devs were going to add in a future update for the Xbox app, and I wanted to make sure the Shield users were heard from too (all two of us, probably).
i definitely agree, i also own both devices and i prefer the 30 second skip more than fast forwarding.
Was just on my way to suggest this as well. Made the jump from a Google TV box to an Nexus Player (Android TV) and sorely miss the 30 second skip buttons. There is discussion of this in the Android forum (forums.plex.tv/discussion/176376/android-tv-controls-shield-android-tv-specifically) and mention that this is the way it is because of Android TV style guidelines. But the current system just isn’t very good, especially if the video is being transcoded or index thumbnails haven’t been generated yet. Sad that only a couple of us have voted for this.
This is one of the three or so reasons I’m planning (I have a few weeks to decide) to return my Shield TV and carry on using clunky, slow (but with beautiful playback) Plex on my 2010 Samsung TV.
I’d really like to know when this is going to be sorted out, as the supposedly Google-mandated interface is just rubbish.
