4K HDR transcoding on iOS but not on Android

Thank You so much for this. I guess there is more of a reason to believe this now -

Here are my logs :-
My Server - Server Logs.zip (578.4 KB)
My Phone - Phone Logs.zip (576.3 KB)

That’s cool. Thank you for what you did. I hope to try the enhanced player one day

Thanks for those logs! I’m surprised to see this in the logs:
MDE: Cannot direct stream video stream due to profile or setting limitations
First time I see that :joy:

@TrippyToes could you enable verbose logs in the server and repeat the process again? I only need server logs this time. (after that, feel free to disable verbose logging again)

Thanks!!

Thanks for the quick reply.

I see. This was what I was seeing in the console too and literally had to see my quality like 10 times
Here are the verbose logs - Server Logs Verbose.zip (580.6 KB)

Sorry, are you sure you enabled Verbose logs in the server? I don’t see any verbose log line in those files  Just for clarity, this is where you find that setting:

Oh I am sorry. By mistake I enabled verbose logging for the web client.
Here they are - Server Logs Verbose.zip (658.0 KB)

Sorry @TrippyToes I overlooked one important detail: this is an HDR video file. iPhone 7 doesn’t support HDR playback, so it needs transcoding regardless.

Actually, it should even look bad, with weird colors, since the transcoder is not doing tone-mapping of HDR videos  The only way to play them correctly now is either using a device with HDR support or using the enhanced player (which tone-maps the video directly).

Ohhh… OK I get it. Yes the colours were washed out as well.

Just one last thing before I close the thread. I get that it won’t play it on my iPhone but it should transcode on my android as well but rather it is being direct played on it.

Android uses a different player that will direct play that video.

Ok. Thank you very much
