4k movies - Blu Ray vs MKV format

Server Version#:3.53.7
Player Version#:
Using my Synology NAS DS918 + XBOX one X

I can not get PLEX to recognize 4k movies if it were BluRay type files (you open the folder and see subfolders (BMDV > Stream/Playlist/Meta etc.).

Plex only recognizes 4k movies where the files have a X265 or MKV extension and does not have subfolders (BMDV > Stream/Playlist/Meta etc).

Can someone tell me if they encounter this as well and how to resolve this. Thanks

Plex does not import RAW media.
BluRay media contains all the different playback regions and encryptions together.

Plex does not accept this encrypted or multi-region format.

You must properly remux to a single stream as MKV or MP4
(MKV is likely better choice here given a bluray rip)

will there be something in their roadmap?

plex did… at the beginning many years ago permit full disk images of DVDs… complete with menues and such but moved away from it and I dont think they will ever go back

had to re-rip all those images to mkv containers stripping out everything but the feature to make them compatible

It was probably because PHT was a fork of Kodi.

The original fork contained support for VIDEO_TS and decrypted VOB files.

At NO point in time did it support encryption.

I think if I remember correctly we were forking Xbmc back then this was like pre 2008-9

Sorry–yes OSXBMC

So i’m sort of bit disappointed - trying to find the ‘right solution’.

My friend was showing me his Oppo 203 and he demo for me > plugging a external portable h/d into his Oppo and the Oppo could play the 4k Blu ray folder with 1 click of a mouse as if it were a real physical Blu ray DVD with menus.

Was hoping to get that type of experience without having to convert my movies in 4k Blu ray format into MKV.

Open to suggestions without spending thousand(s) on a OPPO.

If you are looking for an appliance like solution–LibreELEC 9 with Kodi is your answer.

Try firecore infuse app on appletv 4k. Plays dvd rips for me.

looking into this - not a whole lot of documentation or how to in YouTube.
