Could we get an option to optimize 4k files so that 4k media?
Not quite sure what you’re asking for?

I guess he wants 4k files that will play on all 4k hardware… probably means creating an aac 2.0 and ac3 5.1 audio track?
Not sure what the point is myself, since AFAIK all 4k devices can playback HEVC files and audio transcoding is pretty lightweight.
That said, is the process of turning a 4k hevc file into a direct streamed .ts file heavy on the CPU? That could be a good reason why, I guess… but I always thought direct streaming was not that taxing.
CPU upgrade time. I went from a I7 4440k to Ryzen 5 1600 to get it working. Now runs perfect.

Sorry about that, looks like my sentence had been cut off.
Wanted to be able to optimize 4k files like we can for other resolutions.
Couple of reasons are:
- file size (not all 4k movies are worth the high bit rate)
- watching the high bit rate files on mobile(or away from home) are bandwidth consuming and will likely causing buffering
Hope this clears things up a bit.

If you’re going to lower bitrate, wouldn’t it make more sense to create a higher bitrate, 1080p file?
@KarlDag not in all cases

assuming you mean to keep both the original 4k file and a 1080p version, the problem here is that the server would still use the 4k version , the 1080p version would be ignored

Well to be fair, whatever answer we give, if OP could optimize his 4k file to another 4k file, the server would still use the original bad file… just how things are in Plex world.
