Server Version#:4.69.1
Player Version#: AppleTV 4K version 1
Hi there quick Q.
I have two 4K encode .mkv files. One plays “direct” fine on the AppleTV from my NAS. The other does NOT play without buffering.
Here is the media info from Apple TV box…
This file Playing OK
Source: Direct Play OEM2 - Quality: 3840x1600 @67Mbps- Video: HEVC - Audio: DCA - Player: mpv
This file NOT Playing OK
Source: Direct Play OEM2 - Quality: 3840x1600 @52.2 Mbps - Video: HEVC - Audio: EAC2 - Player: mpv
The only diff I can see is the audio format DCA or EC2.
Q. is that enough to stop smooth playback.?
cheers
The reason for giving the example of a file that does play ok, which has a bitrate 10Mbps higher than the one that doesn’t , eliminates the network issue as far as I know…
C
Thanks
Not really. AFAIK that’s a variable bitrate, so it can jump to whatever in a fast scene, i.e. 100mbs - 150mbs.
Check in the server GUI in the :“Dashboard”, you will see real time graphs with resource consumption, check if there is any peak that matches with the buffering.
Is the non-working video a “scene” video? If yes, you could send me a PM with the name and I can try to find it and try, I have a couple of Apple TV 4K from the previous generation.
You hit it on he head… the birate in variable and does go way up there… thanks for pointing out the properties of, and bringing me up to date with, the more modern encoding of 265…
EDIT… also found it was needing HDR transcode on top of it…
