8TB Drive Gone Down - Need A File List?

Hi folks,

I have 3 x WD MyBook 8Tb USB drives attached to my PC, one containing 734 high quality 1080 BluRay encodes has gone down, mechanical failure (clicking and squeaking noise). Obviously I can see this library of files in my Plex as “Unavailable”. As the quotes I’ve had for hard drive recovery are astronomical, it’s looking like I’m going to have to bite the bullet and have a go myself, hopefully stuck read/write heads which will free, thereby allowing me try and copy everything off. However, and in case it all goes pear shaped how can I generate or save a list of that library from within Plex - in case I’m left with having to try and get many of those movies again?

Also any recommendations for large capacity internal drives 14TB etc - preferably quiet? Thanks in advance.

Please no suggestions about keeping backups etc, as you can probably imagine I don’t need that now. :unamused:

WebTools NG are your friends (in particular ExportTools NG)

Got Ninja’ed by a Plex Ninja. GitHub - WebTools-NG/WebTools-NG: WebTools Next Generation for Plex will do what you are looking for.

Edit: Couldn’t make any progress with with WebTools-NG, was just stuck on a constant loading circle after logging in. Found how to generate a file list of the library with Plex Media Scanner command. Sorted, thanks.

You can also use advanced filters to show which videos that plex considers missing/trash.

I would also advise ensuring that “empty trash after rescan “ is OFF

One thing to keep in mind is that the bigger the drive the more susceptible they are to failure. There are lots of articles about this. If you are planning on using large drives you may want to invest in some type of raid setup.

Though that “rule of thumb” isn’t always true

Keep in mind a RAID is no backup… just in case.
