Any chatter about making ebook files like .mobi and .epub available through our Plex Media Servers?

I too would like to see plex support for e-books and comics

THIS should be added to the “Plex Pass” forums under “Feature Requests”
And staff doesn’t take +1 votes to account.

looks like there is one already go like it here https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/56331/plexreader-comics-books-pdfs/p1

Or at least provide better channel development options to make this a viable addin, e.g. integration into main page menu, custom media, etc

Plex would be a great place to be able park eBooks for a number of reasons.

  1. The one stop for media access is a very appealing. eBooks seems like a strange feature gap.
  2. It would make the Plex pass much more attractive. I have zero interest in watching my movies and tv shows on mobile devices. I read on my phone all the time.
  3. The other options are hard to get working. I have been trying for weeks to get a eBook server first on OMV, now on FreeNAS. All the advice I can find is either old, wrong, or broken. Plex because of the popularity is easy to get working. There is plenty of up to date, correct, and working instructions. If only it handled all the media I needed, I’d already be done.

I’m waiting for this kind of stuff for a long time. I love plex and its flexibility and it will be a good new feature to use it as an ebook library across computers and tablet at least

I really hope they add this feature soon. I could get rid of FreeNAS. All my important docs are in pdf format (including ebooks) and it would be nice to have them available to email or fax from my phone if needed.

Although not directly supported viewing pdf files is possible on plex. It just takes a simple workaround and some time. Here is how you do it.

  1. Open your pdf file and export it as a series of image files. You should end up with the same amount of images as the amount of pages in the pdf file.
  2. Name these files ‘page 1’ ‘page 2’ and so on.
  3. Once renamed place these image files into a folder with the same name as the original pdf file. And place this file onto your plex server
  4. Open the plex manager and click on the + sign and click on photos to create a new photo catergory. Rename this catergory to ‘My Pdf’s’
  5. Click on browse and navigate to the parent folder where you placed the file containing all of your exported pdf images. And click add.
  6. Wait for plex to do its scan of this folder. Once plex finishes scanning you should now have a section called ‘My Pdf’s’ if you open this section you should see the folder for your pdf you exported. Open this folder and you can now scroll through each page of the pdf file the same way you would normally browse through a picture gallery.

Doing it this way you will get to view the pdf. But you will lose the ability to jump to a specific page or search the doc for keywords. But at least you can now host these files from plex and be able to view them from your tv.

bumpbbbbbbbbbbb

+1 Please PDF, CBR, CBZ,
etc.

It’s now 2018, & still nothing? I wish they’d make making plug-ins easier, so that they community could work on things that the team don’t want to work on, or simply don’t have time to do.

sigh

I was searching for a plug-in today to be able to view pdf’s along with my other media, and I’m astounded that it hasn’t been done yet by somebody. Unfortunately I’m not really a web developer (at least not with Python, Ruby etc).

I also needs this functionality for eBook’s (with the option of sending a ebooks to my kindla on a kindle mail) to read comic books on tablets and PC.
And I am asking for a dedicated AudioBook catalog not music

I want PLEX to be one big hub for all my files on the home NAS

I will already be upgrading the system under you to add the PlexTV functionality to my NAS.

do not disappoint me and add functionality to eBooks / Comics / AudioBooks (the last one I know is that he already has support under music, but nevertheless)
