A New Experimental Plex Front End

Yep, the app uses the PIN Auth, I just didn’t implement the front end for account switching for this early build.

One comment about the “server level choice” there is a use and need for this given certain design constraints, at least to me. The solution to just show all the libraries you have access to in a big list like Plex does it a terrible UX and not something I am going to be able to replicate (my nav doesn’t allow it) nor do I want to.

How I have it now isn’t exactly the best solution either, so there is definitely room for improvement!

Plex has a server driven library view mode which lists things like “recently added” & “continue watching”. It fetches everything on demand, on the fly.

This has recently been implemented in Infuse & a plethora of a new Chinese apps like VidHub and SenPlayer.

The HDR mkv issue I suspect is down to API commands used to fetch/GET. It must request HLS protocol & fmp4 container. I’ll look into the logs later.

Your app will be epic once it matures.

Overall amazing job! Thanks again.

Sorry, how to get the app in Testflight? I don’t have iphone or ipad, only Apple TV.

On a PC, the link only goes to a page with lots of Testflight description.

On my Apple TV, I installed Testflight. In Testflight, it only asks for a invite code which I have no idea.

Do I need a iphone/ipad first in order to start the Testflight process?

Thanks!

Try this - it’s the code at the end of the link above so may be the code you are looking for.:

Started testing this morning. Here’s a couple issues I’ve seen

  • Initial setup - app was stuck on “discovering servers” after linking. A reboot fixed this.
  • Libraries - It’s only showing 2 of 6 seemingly random libraries in the nav, however content from other libraries is showing in the “up next/continue watching” section.
  • Playback - No issue playing smaller MKV TV episodes but so far have not been able to play an ATV natively formatted MP4. Note I have not changed quality settings from default.

Edit: Just want to say this app is beautiful and very smooth! I’m really looking forward to this maturing

Just a gentle reminder to please report bugs at the GitHub issues link so I can triage them appropriately!

Ok I’m new to these forums and I don’t quite know where anything is. Where is your latest post I’m supposed to look at?

@chrisjdavis I put in a few issues on GitHub. I’ll try not to overwhelm but will post bugs there as I find them

I appreciate it!

Just a kind request to give me all the info you can when reporting bugs or issues. I have quite a few issues in GitHub that are basically “this doesn’t work” which makes it nearly impossible for me to track down the issue.

Providing as much detail as possible is the only way these issues can really be fixed. Things like the version of the PMS you are using, the AppleTV version, are the servers remote or local, if remote what is your internet speed so that I can try and simulate things locally.

how large are the libraries you are trying to load, etc.

the more info I have, the easier and faster it will be to track down and squash these bugs. Thanks!

Chris,

I’ve added a rather extensive bit of feedback on how to improve mkv remuxing (& thus compatibility) on GitHub for you.

I did this by extracting the remux profiles from the official Plex app on Apple TV.

Thanks again and good luck.

Just got in with TestFlight

Same (TV reboot fixed it)

Quality Settings on High (default), Switched to Maximum (shouldn’t Max be default?)

My server I uses 2 Drives, one for my TV and Movie Library and the second for DVR TV and DVR Movies.

I’m only seeing DVR Movies and DVR TV in the Top Menu. However, in Newly Added DVR TV and Newly Added DVR Movies I’m seeing and able to access media in my TV and Movie Library.

This looks really interesting! Does it support Dolby Vision? If so, what profiles does it support?

He has a couple issues open in GitHub for this. It seems the current app is caching libraries but only grabbing two for the nav bar. He’s planning to switch libraries to direct access which should fix

Closed Captions:

SRT files not recognized (Caption icon on arrow-up not shown) (MP4 file)
Embedded captions (cc) not recognized (MKV file)

Embedded captions (mov_text, MP4 file) however are recognized (and properly on TV with auto on replay)

Edit for Embedded captions (mov_text, MP4 file) :

  1. If Captions set to Auto, then captions are always ON.
  2. If set to OFF, then subtitles on Replay work expected behavior), however…
  3. When going HOME, and then restarting video, Captions are reset to ENGLISH

Yes, profiles 5.1 & 8 in mp4

mkv support will likely follow when remuxing matures.

For now this app thrives with mp4 using Apple’s powerful native player & ideally everyone should batch remux mkv to mp4 (takes seconds & is lossless)
