Back in the day Plex had this awesome feature where you could queue up a bunch of episodes from different shows (usually by a long press action menu). This was great because it allowed someone to sit down at the end of their workday, see 2-3 shows that are new, queue them all up and not have to touch the remote again until all episodes were complete.
There is no similar queue feature today and modern Plex player apps unfortunately don’t have the ability to edit playlists.
A quick solution would be to allow filtering of Smart Playlists by Next Up/On Deck. Meaning if you filter for The Simpsons + Next Up episode, only the single episode next up in watch order shows up. A user could then just filter multiple shows (whatever they’re currently watching) in the one playlist and select the Next Up filter and you’d have a very close approximation to what existed above… just no ability to edit from player apps.
Ideally Plex would allow the above, but also let users create “Next Up Queues” or create/edit smart playlists from the app.
There are six people in my home using Plex. I am the only one that knows the web/ui exists. Plex is a TV app for them. I feel like the ability to create a playlist in a media app would be a nice one to have for people who don’t spend a lot or any time in the web/ui.
I’d also like the ability to add posters to playlists. There is a feature suggestion thread for that with over 100 votes, I had to remove my vote to put a vote on my own feature suggestion. I still would like that feature though.
Edit - This isn’t a feature that can be implemented at only the player level. It was tagged with the server tags because of that.
