Revamp PlexAmp's "Up Next" Section

I would like to suggest combining PlexAmp’s “Up Next” section with it’s “Back To” section.

The way it is now, does not allow me to listen to an already played song in a playlist without also adding all the other songs in between back to upcoming songs.

For example:

If I want to listen to “The Look” again, all the song above would move into the “Up Next” section again, and I would have to manually remove them or click on the song that was up next before I went to said song, if I don’t want to listen to them again.

I would like it to be more for example like Tidal where you can just drag the ONE song you want to hear again from the already played songs, but leaving all the other songs alone.

this is an example from Tidal:

Also, I find it very annoying that you can’t see all of your upcoming songs in the “Up Next” section. You can just see a few dozen. Most Streaming Services allow you see them all, which means I can freely arrange them however I want and not beeing limited to just a few.

I think changing these two things, would make PlexAmp a lot more convenient to use.

So basically what you’re asking for is an option to add songs to the queue to the context menu of each item in the Back To view (e.g. play next and add to queue as it’s found in some other areas of the app)?

There’s already an existing feature suggestion to show the full queue in Up Next – I suggest we focus on the other part of your suggestion here in order to avoid distracting votes/attention (though the suggestion hasn’t gained much attention yet; not a vote from the OP themselves).

This is a topic that keeps popping up in different forms. I agree that having the queue divided into “up next” and “back to” sections is unnecessary. I would like to see the entire queue in a single scrollable list that shows the current track and ALL previous and ALL upcoming tracks.

In addition, I would like to see every track given the same actionablity, no matter the view. So if a track is being viewed in the queue, in a playlist, in an album, in a filtered list of tracks - wherever - the actions of “play next”, “add to playlist”, “go to album”, “go to artist”, etc. should be available.

The limited view of the queue and the need to click all around to add more tracks is somewhat irksome

Editing to add > I don’t know how others feel about it, but I don’t see much use for the “related” tab that shows beside “back to” and “up next”. It’s not like Plexamp is trying to sell us on a library of music that they host. The app is simply hosting my own library, out of which I am pretty familiar with what relates to what. Just sayin’

So, to simplify things, all of these tabs should be eliminated, and when you swipe up (or left or right maybe?) on the player screen, the full queue, past, present and future, should appear. There is a reason that most other music apps function this way - it’s because it makes sense

You may have your Plex Server configured as such but Plex currently has Tidal integration and who knows what else they may have on the horizon but to suggest that you know what you have in your music library is pertaining to you, but I definitely haven’t listened to my whole entire music collection and I’m finding absolutely nothing wrong with the current queue tabs Up Next, Back To.

I will agree on your suggestion for each track having the ability to have the same consistent menu no matter where in PlexAmp you are.

My wife has now complained to me a couple times that the “Up Next” list is just not long enough. She added an album to the queue, with the intent to remove 1 or 2 songs later in the album, but was unable to do so given how few tracks are visible in the Up Next list. This was also a situation where she wouldn’t easily be able to just wait until those songs were closer to the top of the list to remove them.

I’ve also found this frustrating at times. I don’t like needing to regularly interact with the queue just to swap the order of a couple songs, or remove something I don’t feel like hearing or whatever.

I have this type of experience frequently. I mostly listen to huge playlists and sometimes, such as when I know I’ll be in the car with my wife for more than just a short trip, I like to eliminate certain tracks that I know she’d rather not hear. And that’s something that I don’t want to do while driving. The twelve track ‘up next’ list is totally insufficient

Another example and reason to EXPAND the up next portion of the queue >>> With one or two songs from an album remaining in the queue, I decide to add another album, or playlist that contains more than a dozen tracks. But I still want to hear the one or two tracks remaining from the previous album. It SHOULD be simple to bump those tracks back to the top of the queue, ahead of what I just added, EXCEPT they are now burried out of view, because the up next section only allows for a dozen tracks. Sure, there are ways to get those tracks back to the top of the queue, but none of them are simple.

Is it really too much to ask that we be able to view the entire queue, or at least have some reasonable expansion? Is it really too much to ask for function over form?

I see that this thread is still open for comment well beyond the typical 90 days of dormancy, and it gives me hope that maybe the devs do have plans to make some changes to the queue functionality. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Any dev care to comment?

Clearly NOT

Plex usually only comment on feature suggestions if they need further clarification. Suggestion threads don’t auto-close like the ones in the regular forum sections (except for accidental closures if a thread was opened someplace else and only moved to the feature suggestion section).
