Ability to play .STRM files

I don't believe it's possible to play .STRM files from the library through an Apple TV via PlexConnect. I even tried an .MP4 video link inside a STRM file. It plays fine on the Plex app on my Macbook, but the TV plays nothing (no error message, just black screen with basically frozen timebar/progessbar at bottom of Apple TV).

 

Is it possible to get .STRM files working? That way I can stream custom video URLs to my Apple TV?

 

OR: Does anyone know a plugin/channel that allows for queueing custom video URLs that I can the plex client to stream?

Any ideas? I guess I like the idea of being able to find any video URL on the internet and send it to my Apple TV to have it stream. Thanks!

How about a dedicated PMS plugin?

Yeah a PMS plugin is what you really need, it doesn’t make sense to implement this 20 times in all of the different clients.

Is there currently a plugin that allows for simply entering a URL to a video (exact video URL, like somewebsite.com/video.mp4, .flv, etc...) and streaming a video (maybe adding it to a list, and then being able to access that list on the Apple TV)? Kind of like myPlex, but I'd like to give it the exact URL destination because myPlex doesn't support every site currently. It wouldn't have to detect any videos on a page since I'd be giving the plugin the exact URL to the file. I assume this plugin would have to be created?
