I’ve Been a Premium Plex sub for quite a while now. i’ve always thought would be a great addition was the ability to pre download a movie on the smart tv app / Fire TV stick app… and then delete it after you’ve watched it. I
know you might think why would you need that if you’re not travelling… I have a decent enough library and when i bought an Oled i started upgrading some of my content to include 4k HDR versions of some of my favourites. When i’m in my home network these work perfectly but when in my parents place (Who have the same TV) the 4k files sometimes suffer from some buffering, i have all the files set to direct play and playing original quality in their players … and in the right formats so i know its not a transcoding issue. alot of the time i’m assuming its just their network connection… even though they have a good ISP… It works perfectly fine with any 1080p files but the 4k stuff causes some issues.
I’d love if they had an option to pre download or to cache more of the movie in advance of starting it so that it takes this buffering out. My thoughts on how it would work would be that the download would be temporary and would automatically delete after the user had watched the movie… after the TV has been powered off… after 24/ 48 hours if not removed by the user before hand or something along those lines and the owner of the library could could choose which users have the option to download locally or not… in the same way the mobile app works… The files themselves would not be files that could be taken off and watched elsewhere outside of the plex environment.
