Ability to rename "Movies & TV" to something else

It would be nice if we could rename the Movies & TV page to something else across our account, because I know it will be difficult to explain the difference between ‘Movies & TV’ and ‘Movies’, so it would be nice if the user has the option to give it a custom name (e.g. Streaming Movies or something), so that they can try ease confusion for non-techie users a bit.

Also, I’ve noticed the content stable for New Zealand is a bit barebones at this stage. While I understand this entirely comes down to rights, is there a plan to try expand the content library for countries outside of the US?

Why didn’t they just call is Video on Demand (VOD) or something along those lines?

Completely agree. It should have never been called “Movies & TV”, as every single PMS host will have libraries named with either one or the other or both. This just confuses the dumb users.

I agree with @Lazarus_Long - It should have been something like “Video On Demand”

This should be looked at sooner rather than later.!

EDIT: Or maybe “Plex On Demand”… Just anything but its current name!

Of all the names, the one they picked is the worst one. It’s impossible for the average non-tech savy user to understand what’s going on here.

Also, don’t pint it per default.

I don’t think you’ll ever be able to rename this at a server level, as it’s a service provided by Plex like News and such…

I think if they changed the tagline “on Plex” to “provided by Plex” it might help make more sense.

It should be titled Video on Demand. Nothing more nothing less, that’s all it is.

Looks like it now says Movies and TV on Plex… They listen to us for once!

I don’t think that really helps matters. Most of my users just think of my server as ‘Plex’, so this doesn’t clarify anything. Additionally, search results (at least on Plex Web) still come up as ‘Movies & TV’

I propose “Video on Demand by Plex” then at least the branding can stay and things are more clear.

“on Plex” is not better. This is so confusing, I already got the first questions about it and people complaining about it.

You should call it “Free TV” or something similar because its the thing its most resembles and it’s less confusing to everyone invloved.

This bothers me too, but not NEARLY AS MUCH as the fact that these ad infested movies show up in the same search results as the rest of my server. I wish there was a way to disable server side Plex Movies & TV from showing up in the same search results as my content.

When someone switches to that Plex Movies & TV tab, it should have its own sandboxed search. I understand that might effectively hide it for most people BUT THAT IS WHAT WE WANT!

Send him here https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/online-media-sources

He has to go there himself. You can’t do these settings for him, (unless he is a member of your home and you have his PIN, then you can do ‘Switch User’ and set it for him.)

Anyone that really doesn’t like it, it is easy enough to walk them through turning off online media sources.

It’s these non tech savvy people in the middle where they don’t REALLY care, but they do notice it. They may not be willing to take the time with me or on their own to turn them off, but once again they are still noticing these broke ass movies with ads that repeat the exact same ad for some prescription drug 3 times one after the other.

It more or less just bothers me that these dumb ad supported movies were pushed on an opt-out basis and it’s making my server seem weird to people. That might sound like small potatoes but I would imagine this is the basic issue most Plex server owners have with it.

They way Plex implemented it is too invasive on the rest of the server side content. I’m sure Plex disagrees because this is making them money.

It looks like there’s more coming, so be prepared. There are articles floating around with the stories that Plex will likely begin offering rentals, streaming channels, and other services. There’s even chatter about deep linking to other services; meaning you can search for an item within Plex, click the link, and it will seamlessly take you to an outside service such as Netflix to launch the content.

Like it or not, all of these new things are coming at the account level. Plex is positioning itself to no longer need a server owner to provide content. A user with no access to a server will be able to take in tons of different media options.

That “nose in the tent” has just evolved into, Nose, Torso, and a sack of 12 pound nuts on a cell phone calling the In-Laws.

Welcome to the New (and improved) Plex.
