My autistic son just had a twenty minute meltdown to deal with due to sensory overload.
With Discover you’ve added trailers. Great. You’ve put them on the main screen, ok. We can live with that. But they play automatically! Why? We’ve autoplay disabled for this reason. It’s far too much input for my son to deal with.
Please remove this function, or make it optional.
We struggle enough to give our son access to a normal life, and this just bowled him for six for something he was quite excited about.
Having an autistic son myself I can relate. Thankfully autoplay is not triggering for my son but can imagine the stress of it due to the change in your house.
While you wait in hope for plex to fix this you have two options to try …
Un pin discover from the home screen so hopefully he won’t see it.
Create a local managed user and sign in on the device as that user. From reading on the forum it appears the new discover feature is disabled for managed users.
I’ll try both. He won’t come back near the television tonight. We had tested the functionality on the iPad so I think the tvOS difference just caught him by surprise.
The trigger we really struggle with is countdowns. This pretty much rules out most streaming services as they insist on autoplay with a countdown to the next episode. Plex deals with this really well (thanks Plex!) so I really don’t want him going off the platform.
@plex could really do with acknowledgment of this. It’s a pretty massive issue and quite distressing for my son. For now removing Discover from the pin seems to remove trailers, so is a work around. Ideally I’d like my son to have the same access as anyone else. He deserves it. Just tag the feature on to the autoplay toggle.
An additional reason why this ”feature” needs to be optional - bandwidth. We have a monthly data cap. I’m sure others do too.
